She’s Still Smiling

On Valentine’s Day 2010, after missing her sweetheart for over 27 years, Polly Jayne Bowden Pomeroy joined her husband for a waltz.

Polly was born Sept. 9 1926 in Mesa AZ to Amy Lovera and William Francis Bowden, the 3rd child and 2nd daughter of their family. She enjoyed a happy childhood and always had many friends.  At first, people might have been attracted to her because of her beautiful red hair and curls, but quickly warmed to her smile and bright laugh. Polly has a smile that lights up the room.  She loves everyone, and everyone loves Polly. She married her eternal sweetheart, Paul Edward Pomeroy, on Nov. 5, 1948 in Mesa.  They moved to California and ended up in the “sleepy sailor town” of San Diego.  She lived there until 2003 when she moved to Riverton, UT to be near her daughter and other grandchildren.

Polly is a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in all the auxiliaries at different times of her life.  She loved the Lord and was always very grateful to Him for the many blessings she enjoyed.  She was blessed to be able to serve for 11 years in the San Diego Temple.  She will be dearly missed.

She leaves behind her best friend and daughter Betty Shaw (Tim), and grandchildren Matthew Joseph Shaw, Heather Lynn Shaw, Adam David Shaw, Angela Marie Coleman-Martinez (Jesse), Elder Jared Michael Shaw, Amy Jayne Shaw and Tyler Edward Pomeroy; sister, Betty Poling, brother Robert Bowden (Jerri);and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Proceeded in death by her husband Paul, daughter Anna, sons Robert Paul Pomeroy and John Bowden Pomeroy.

Services will be Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 at 12 noon at the Riverton 10th Ward 12830 S. 2700 W.  Family and friends may visit with her family that day from 10:30- 11:45 am.  She will be buried in San Diego next to her sweetheart.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate to either the LiveStrong foundation or the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund.

Betty and Tim: Our hearts go out to you with the passing of your beautiful mother. Whenever she came to our ward she brightened the space around her. I never knew her personally but knew she was a sweet spirit of God. I know you will miss her but remember she has left you a legacy of love.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the family as you are enduring the loss of your Polly.
The Bowden and Pomeroy families have been friends of the Glaziers in Mesa since 1930.
We hope that all of the family will continue to be as faithful as Polly.
Love and Respect,
Bill and Millie Glazier
