Sondra Somers Thorell

August 10, 1952 — May 17, 2026

Sondra Somers Thorell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday morning, May 17, 2026, at the age of 73.

Sondra was born on August 10, 1952, in an apartment above her family’s business, Somers Music, on Center Street in Logan, Utah, to Raymond and Josephine Somers. She grew up alongside her three siblings and many dear friends, spending summers picking sugar beets and working in the family music store after school. It was there, while working the register, that she met the man she would later marry, Kenneth R. Thorell.

Sondra possessed a natural gift for entrepreneurship and leadership throughout her life. While her husband attended dental school, she became one of the top employees at Stouffer’s Foods. Later, as Ken established his dental practice, Sondra worked beside him for more than twenty years, helping manage and grow the office with dedication and skill. Even after retirement, she continued to share her financial expertise by helping improve the operations of several aesthetics companies, and she proudly served on the board for the Festival of Trees.

She was known for her tenacious spirit, her resilience through hardship, and her remarkable ability to inspire strength and perseverance in others. Sondra was a devoted and passionate member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a devote follower of Jesus Christ and encouraged others to do the same. She served in the church throughout her life and in many callings, usually with Steven in tow. Her ability to be led by the spirit and her very personal relationship with her Father in Heaven allowed her to touch many lives. She found deep joy in nature, especially in the beauty of her yard and gardens, where her talents as a gardener flourished.

Above all else, Sondra’s greatest legacy was the boundless love she gave to her family and friends. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support touched countless lives. Her son Steven was the center of her life as she strived to support him by fixing very specific meals, wardrobe changes, and grooming schedules. Sondra’s biggest wish was to outlive Steven. This focus on others was the foundation of her life as she tried to serve as the Lord would have served. She accomplished this by always asking questions about how others were doing, life challenges they were going through, rather than focusing on her own. Her life was a quiet testimony of discipleship, charity, and devotion to the Savior Jesus Christ

Sondra is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Thorell; her daughter, Jennifer Nigbur (Jeff); her sons, Steven Thorell and Ryan Thorell (Katie Jo); her brother, Richard Somers (Pam); her sister, Stephanie Fronberg (Todd); and her cherished grandchildren, Weston, Walker, Ayden, Doc Arthur, Scotty, Stella, and Sadie. She is preceded in death by a son, David, her sister Susan, and her parents.

The funeral will be Friday, May 22nd at the LDS Meetinghouse at 7035 S. Nutree Drive. A viewing will be at 9:30 am followed by a funeral at 11:00am.
