Yvonne N. Mason completed her mission on earth February, 10, 2021, just shy of her 99th birthday. She was born Feb. 20, 1922 to Jasper Nebeker Nicholas and Aleda Susanna Jensen in her beloved town of Brigham City where she was determined she would rest when her sojourn here was through. She was the last born of four daughters. Preceding her in order of birth were Phyllis, Carma, Delone, then came Yvonne. Her memories of her early years were that of the life of a farmer’s family. There was irrigating, picking fruit, working at a cannery and canning fruit. For a period, the family lived in Battle Mountain, Nevada where she remembered living an idyllic life and made friends she loved her whole life.
She married Jack Farrell Mason of Tremonton, Utah, on April 1, 1941 in Malad, Idaho. They had one daughter, Linda Mason Thatcher.
From her youth Yvonne had learned to be a hard worker and relished having that ability. That trait stood her in good stead her whole life as she applied herself to many vocations…Grocery Store Clerk, sales clerk in several establishments, assistant to the County Nurse, Clerk to a Probate Judge, Mail Delivery, Distributor for a seed company, and the most long lasting was as an Agent for the Selective Service in Burley, Idaho.
She also gave of herself in Volunteer Service. She was President of the Soroptimist Club in Burley, Idaho. After her relocation to Salt Lake City, Utah, she served over 20 years at the Church Museum of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and also served at the Beehive House in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She greatly loved her daughter, Son-in-law, Terry Thatcher, and Grandchildren, Tyler (Gerolyn Hanna), Tiffany (Mike Keim), Heather (Justin Labrum), Travis (Stephanie Perry), and Trevor (Kristina Vance). Being in their midst, serving them, and joining in all of the activities of their lives was her greatest joy. As spouses of grandchildren and great grand-children came along, she embraced all and loved to be with everyone as much as she could.
She had a zest for life and loved being involved in any adventures available as long as it didn’t mess up her perfect hair. She especially loved travel and joined in many trips throughout the United States and to various countries around the world. As our daughter described her so perfectly, “She is strong, resilient, smart, beautiful, tenacious, and a great traveling buddy,” unless you mess up her hair.
Yvonne is survived by daughter, Linda, son-in-law, Terry Thatcher, five grandchildren and their spouses, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great- grandchildren.
To honor her adamant wishes, there will be no funeral. Interment will be at the Brigham City, Utah cemetery.
We want to thank the amazing staff of Bristol Hospice for their support, wisdom, and tremendous service and care, and especially our two Jens who were always there when needed.
