Funeral Recording

Rosemary Annette Sherrig Hughes, our loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully Jan 18, 2020 in Orem, Utah at the age of 91. She was born in Eugene, Oregon on Nov 30, 1928, the only child of Alexander Sherrig and Mary Isobel Burbidge.

After her mother’s early passing, she went to live with her father in Portland, Oregon.  There she enjoyed her growing up years and especially her pets.  She moved to Salt Lake City and graduated from business school.  She met her eternal companion G. Dayton Hughes on a blind date with friends. They loved dancing at Fort Douglas and Saltair.

After they married, they made their home in Provo where Dayton worked for Provo School District.  While in Provo mom joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because of the love and example of the Rivergrove 1st Ward members.  They enjoyed many years of service with beloved friends and associates from Provo High School.

Upon retirement they moved to the Oregon Coast and enjoyed many happy years there.  She was instrumental in organizing the Family History Center in Reedsport.  Her life was dedicated to family history and temple work. Her testimony was her guiding light.

She was devoted to her family and shared her talents with all.  She was an excellent cook, organizer, seamstress, handiwork, and friend.  Her traditional Christmas homemade chocolates were the highlight of the holidays.

She left a legacy of hard work and determination to stay true and faithful to the end. She is survived by Kristine (Dennis) Holley, Kim (Nelson) Lesher, Gordon Wilkey and Dayton (Denise) Hughes.  She has 14 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildern and 1 great great grandchild that honor her courage and strength.  She will be missed.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband and daughters Kathy and Kerri Wilkey.
