Marilyn Cannon

October 29, 1931 — August 23, 2021

On the evening of August 18th, 2021, Marilyn Jean Creer Cannon passed  peacefully at home in Draper, Utah.  She was born on October 29th, 1931 in Spanish Fork, Utah to Charles Clarence Creer and Lillian Merl Dahle Creer. She was the second of their five children.
Marilyn grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah where she attended primary through high school and graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1949.  Shortly after graduation, she moved to Los Angeles, CA to seek new experiences and obtained her first full-time job as a long-distance telephone operator for Pacific Bell.  A short time later her adventurous spirit prompted her to apply   as an air hostess for Trans World Airlines (TWA).  In December of 1952 TWA offered her the position.  Surely her generous, caring personality and good looks made her an easy choice for the then, coveted role.  Her initial assignment took her to Chicago where she remained for two years.  Marilyn who had not previously traveled much, greatly enjoyed flying and visiting many exciting cities in the eastern U.S.  After a few years, she requested a transfer and returned to Los Angeles.  Shortly after her return and while on a blind-double-date, she met the love of her life Russell Cannon.  After dating about one year, they became engaged and were married on September 3rd,1954 in the Salt Lake City Temple.  The young couple built their life in Southern California, Marilyn attended Glendale College and received her associate degree in 1956  and Russell began his law career as Deputy City Attorney in Burbank.  Three years after marrying, they welcomed the arrival of their first child, a son Scott.  Over the next several years, they welcomed two more children, daughters Cathleen (Cathy), and Terry. They also have two grandchildren, Scott’s daughter Torrie and Terry’s son Travis.  Marilyn’s most cherished love and priority in her life was as a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Marilyn and Russell shared many interests and adventures together. They enjoyed many wonderful vacations traveling the world   including Europe, Israel, South America, and parts of China, to name a few.  She loved experiencing the local  cultures and engaging with people throughout all their travels .  Marilyn thrived participating in  church callings for the LDS faith .  She was involved in six primary presidencies, one which was the role of primary president.  Five relief society presidencies, including the role of president.  Two young women presidencies and as Sunday school president.    Despite her time spent in leadership positions, her first love was always teaching  , where she served in many additional auxiliary organizations.  She and her husband Russell served a mission in Santiago, Chile and a public relations mission in Salt Lake City. They also served together as stake missionaries.
Throughout her life, Marilyn has had many dear friends , she was known as caring and kind to everyone she met.  Her many close girlfriends share stories about her loving and generous heart, complimenting her as a consummate hostess and a friend to all.   She touched everyone she met and will be greatly missed.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Russell A. Cannon, her parents and sister Carol Tilley (Jack). She is survived by her children Scott William Cannon, Cathleen (Cathy) Cannon Jarvis (Michael), Terry Lynne Cannon Coynor (Eric), grandchildren Torrie Lynn Cannon Costantino (David) and Travis Michael McAllister, sister’s Peggy Christianson (Sterling), Charlene Dolos (Edward), and brother Larry Creer.
