Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, Madelin M. Mitchell Seguin, crowned with a well-deserved golden halo and angel wings, was greeted by a multitude of angels as she ascended to heaven on July 2, 2022.  The world lost a very special beacon of light today without this special Angel here on Earth.

Born May 30, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Myrtle V. and Dick J. Mitchell.  Married the love of her life Joseph C. Seguin on October 14th in Salt Lake City, UT and later solemnized their love and eternal marriage in the Salt Lake Temple.  Together they raised five sons and one daughter in a home filled with love, faith, frugality, generosity, kindness, respect, humility, and teamwork.

In her younger days, Madelin loved roller skating, and was much better than most.  You might go so far to say if roller skating were in the Olympics, she would have competed – and won!  She turned her love of skating into a career and performed for many service men and at events doing dangerous stunts with her skating partner Diane, one of which was a death spiral.  While inverted and holding on only with her skates around Diane’s neck, Diane spun in a circle while Madelin’s head flew up and down, her head missing the floor by only inches on the downward swing as she spun around and around. She was very shy about showing folks the pictures of her performance, even though she was quite a stunningly beautiful entertainer and loved every minute of it.

Madelin was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many, many positions over the years.  She was highly competitive and played catcher on the church softball team.  Later as Sports Director, she coached her team and won the Stake Volleyball Championship which was reported as front-page news on The Midvale Sentinel in 1967.  As a Den Mother in the Scouting program, that same winning coach mentality was used during the Derby Car Races.  She was involved from beginning to end advising the scouts on every possible winning edge.  And whether they won or lost, she always praised their accomplishments.

Madelin had a work ethic that would put those much younger than her to shame. She proved this with her profession as a “Lunch Lady” at Butler Jr. High where she retired after 27 years of hard yet rewarding work.  She was like the energizer bunny, she kept going and going.  On her final work performance review in 1994, it was noted that: “Madelin is always doing more than her share; She adjusts to new programs and has the best attitude ever!; She has to be the nicest person I have met in this lunch program, and, She never has a bad word to say about anyone.”

As an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, she attended regularly and held many positions over the years including First Vice Captain for the Brighton Camp.  She loved attending, sharing treats, listening and sharing stories of pioneers, participating in service projects and putting on events.

If a volunteer was needed, Madelin never hesitated.  She was a shuttle for her neighbors when they needed a ride, long before it became a business, though she never took a penny for her service.  She loved providing meals for others in need.  She was an excellent cook!  She even won a bake-off contest in 1964 for her Caramel Meringue Nut Bars and was also well known for her delicious Pineapple Coconut Pudding Cake, chewy Oatmeal Crispies cookie and refreshing Lime Slush.

Always caring for others, Madelin led an exemplary life of service.  She took such tender care of her loving husband for many years, and never a complaint did she utter. She took pride in everything she did, her work, her service, her cooking, her home and garden where she loved her roses, but especially her family.  They, were her pride and joy. They, were her reason for living and working as hard as she and Dad did to provide love and care, adventures and education, help and support to make every possible dream come true and give them a far better life than their own.

Madelin lived her life selflessly and was a great example of charity, sacrifice, generosity, kindness and grit.  Regardless of the situation at hand, she always demonstrated a Christ-like unconditional love to those around her.  She let her light so shine before others, that all saw her good works and were blessed by her example.  She was a friend to all and loved by all who knew her.  Her light now in heaven, will be one of the brightest stars in the sky.

Survived by Sons Terry (Patty), Ron (Robin), Kevin (Janeen) and Daughter JoAnn (Jimmy Lee - deceased), 28 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren with more on the way, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends that were considered family.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband Joe, sons Richard (Sue) and John, father, mother, sisters Irene and Mary.
