Linda Rae Sorensen

July 7, 1942 ~ February 28, 2020 (age 77)

Obituary

Linda Rae Sorensen, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2020, with her family by her bedside in Midvale, Utah,

Linda was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on July 7, 1942, to L. Richard and Norma June Sorensen.  The first of six children, 5 girls and 1 boy.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and grew up in Pocatello, Idaho; served a mission for the church in the Eastern Atlantic States.  She served as a Relief Society teacher/visiting teacher also for some time as organist, as well as many other positions.

She attended public schools in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1960.  She went on to study at Boise Junior College and earned a certificate in dental assistance. After serving a mission, she moved to Provo, Utah and started working with computers when they were still room-size, experiencing the many advances and changes that have taken place.  She retired from Utah State Library Commission after working there for many years.

Linda loved her daughter and grandchildren more than self.  She had a close relationship with her siblings and always looked forward to being with family for holidays, birthdays, and special events.  She was also proud of her pioneer heritage and the ancestors who sacrificed so much.  She loved to travel with family and friends to many of the 50 states, as well as overseas.   She had many life-long friends and was faithful to those friendships over many years.  Her special friend, Mar Jean Miller, was a friend from childhood and was like a sister to her.  They kept up with their children and grandchildren’s birthdays and special events.  Cleo Gardiner has been a very close friend/sister since they were mission companions and has given loving support during Linda’s illnesses.  Linda loved music and basketball and football games.  We will always remember her phone calls shouting, Touch Down!  She loved doing crafts of many kinds and has left us each with treasured items that she has made.

Though her illness slowed her physically, she never lost her sense of humor and strong will.  She was always there to listen and friends and family looked to her for advice.

Survived by daughter, Raeonna Lyn Nino and grandchildren (Samuel, Moses, Isabela, and Lanikka).  Sisters Leslie Sorensen, Sheila (Mike) Carson, Jane Ellen (Todd) Solomon, Nedra (Tony) Bell, and brother Vern (Kris) Sorensen.  She is preceded in death by her parents, nephew David, and brother-in-law Todd, as well as several close friends.
