Joyce Lund

April 17, 1924 — December 5, 2021

Lifelong resident Joyce Elaine Tagg Lund died December 5, 2021, of natural causes.  Born April 17, 1924, to James Francis Tagg and Lillian Jackson, Joyce married Eugene Frewin Lund June 17, 1942, in the Salt Lake Temple.  Joyce valued education.  She attended South High School and graduated from the University of Utah cum laude while raising four children.  She also earned a master's degree in Education from BYU.  She worked for the Granite School District for 28 years as an elementary school librarian, ending her career at Lincoln Elementary School.   She remarked many times that her greatest accomplishment was helping all 4 of her children become university graduates.

Before attending college, she was a skilled secretary working for the FBI in Washington DC during WWII.  She was a voracious reader, good arbiter skilled at weighing the good and bad, pros and cons, risks and rewards, and the value for money. She was an avid bridge player.  She enjoyed traveling and encouraged others to see the world and learn from the varied places and experiences. Mom was frugal and taught that skill to her children as well.  She sacrificed personal pleasures so that her children and grandchildren could enjoy diverse adventures and fun experiences.  She loved chocolate and anything else with sugar.  During her last years in the assisted living center, she maintained her integrity, sense of humor, and showed respect and gratitude for her caregivers.  She was their favorite resident and will be missed by everyone.

She is survived by daughters Jann Lund Mecham, Lisa (John) Goodman of Salt Lake; sons Paul Lund of Salt Lake and Matthew Lund (Douglas Wylie) of Palm Springs, CA; sister Frances Ann Holfeltz; brother James Burton Tagg; 4 grandchildren Meg Mecham Lewis, Amy Mecham Gardner, David Lund Mecham and Emily Goodman Stinger; 13 great grandchildren George Lewis, Lily Lewis, Hank Lewis, Poppy Lewis, Ana Gardner, Abby Gardner, James Gardner, Charles Gardner, Lincoln Gardner, Thomas Gardner, Annie Stinger, Halle Stinger, Charley Stinger.  She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband Eugene in 2016.
