Janice Slone

August 16, 1956 — June 28, 2020

Janice Marie Slone, devoted sister, aunt, and friend, left this earth and joined her parents, brother, and fur babies in heaven on June 28th. She was born in Anchorage, Alaska on August 16th to Bobbie and SGM(ret) John Slone Sr. who she adored and spoke of often after their passing. Survived by brothers Charles Slone and Jimmy Slone and their families, she also leaves dear friends Diane and Pam, and her sweet Boston Terrier, Bea.

Jan graduated from Emory University to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. She worked as an NNP at University of Utah Hospital, Intermountain Medical Center, Primary Children’s Hospital, and traveled to Boise, Idaho monthly.

She was a passionate and fearless nurse delivering and caring for thousands of babies throughout her extensive career. As an early pioneer to support bereaved parents who lost their child,  Jan spent countless hours creating, coordinating, and providing grief and loss services to those parents and loved ones.

Jan ferociously loved her rescue dogs and was devoted to enriching their senior years. Her family and friends were well loved and habitually received holiday cards and gifts from her latest adventure. She traveled often and enjoyed visiting her many friends and colleagues at cities across the country.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 3rd at 10 am at Cannon Mortuary in Salt Lake City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to University of Utah Hospital Perinatal Bereavement Program, Boston Terrier Rescue, or your local Humane Society.
