George Mantle

November 17, 1949 — November 1, 2021

Our beloved Uncle Gene passed away on November 1, 2021 at the Intermountain Medical Center ICU, after a rapid decline in health.  Gene was born January 17, 1949 to Matilda Knudsen Mantle and John William Mantle in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Gene was the youngest child in the family, brother to Janet Mantle Ericson and John Ervin Mantle, both of whom are now reunited with their baby brother.
Gene's life truly began when he married his "Little Sew-and-Sew" Mildred Kay Mantle in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 1, 1973.  They were always together, and shared many road trip adventures.  It was never just Gene - it was always Gene and Kay.  After losing Kay to ovarian cancer in November 2015, Gene passed away on what would have been their 48th wedding anniversary.
Gene was a train enthusiast, and enjoyed going for a Sunday drive up the canyon.  Gene is survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family, who will always remember fried chicken up Millcreek Canyon, listening to him talk about his childhood.
A viewing will be held Friday, November 12, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cannon Mortuary 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 South) followed by a Graveside service at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery (3115 East 7800 South) at 12:30 PM that same day.
