Eleanor Sniegocki

July 13, 1928 — June 15, 2020

Our loving mother passed away on June 15, 2020 at the age of 91. She was born in Chicago on July 13, 1928. She was married to Joseph for 67 years until his passing in 2015. She raised three strong and responsible daughters through the example that she set. She lived a fulfilled and meaningful life.

She grew up in Chicago. Mom and Dad retired to Salt Lake City in 1988 where they enjoyed their life together and with their family.

Born in challenging times, Eleanor took care of her family ... and never stopped. She was the 2nd oldest of seven children and the last surviving sibling. She loved and cared for her brothers and sisters dearly. After graduating 8th grade, she went to work to support her family.

She enjoyed her job as an elevator operator in a fancy Chicago hotel where she met a number of celebrities. She worked at General Mills where she met "her Joe”. The first time she saw him she told her friend, “See that man? I'm going to marry him." After raising her family Mom worked as a licensed respiratory therapist for 20+ years.

Mom was the heart of our family. She was the ultimate mother. She not only mothered her siblings at an early age but continued to be an emotional and loving support throughout their lives. Her own daughters and grandchildren always knew they were loved and appreciated (Just listen to her tell people about our good parts!). Eleanor seemed to connect to babies and children everywhere. She had the ability to quiet a fussing child wherever she went. She gravitated to children and they seemed to gravitate to her.

Eleanor crocheted beautiful baby blankets and afghans that she gave away freely. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards with family and friends. Mom cherished the friendships she made through these activities. She had a special group of friends that still met for lunches and birthdays.

Eleanor liked: going to movies, popcorn, dining out, Wendover, family vacations, spending time in the canyons, Bingo at St. Thomas More, drinking tea around the kitchen table, family gatherings, attending ALL the sporting activities of the grandchildren, the Oregon coast, time spent with family putting together jigsaw puzzles, cooking shows, the glorious view out of the living room window and the roses that grew just outside that window.

Mom taught us to be loving and responsible. She taught us to have money sense. (Imagine Dad's surprise when she had secretly saved enough for a down payment on their first home!) She was firm but fair. She was understanding and calm. She was our cheerleader.

All those who knew Eleanor had these things to say: delightful, funny, witty, wise, sweet, dear, loving, warm, friendly, giving, they felt a 'connection', understanding. The emptiness we feel is eased by the sweet memories we hold. We are grateful to have been loved by her.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband, Joe, and her daughter, Susan Miller. She leaves behind her daughters: Connie Sniegocki and Kathy (Scott) Czaja, grandchildren: Lisa (Peter) Westbrook, Sarah (Sam) Allen, Philip, Alex and Ben Czaja, great grandsons: Milo and Oliver Allen and Daniel Anderson.

A celebration of Eleanor's life will be held at a later time when we can gather together safely.
