Funeral Recording

Ronald John Hermansen, beloved patriarch of our family, aka: Ron, Grandpa, Grampie, Rad Dad, Cute Little Man, Dr. H, RJ, and Bishop passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 under the gorgeous shadows of the Jordan River Temple. He was living with dementia but otherwise, physically “Fit as a Fiddle” until COVID found him!

He was born May 14, 1937 in Grand Junction Colorado to Wilford Hermansen and Mary Hendrickson Hermansen.  He married his college sweetheart, Linda Ruth Luckau on November 10, 1962 in the Manti LDS Temple. They spent 58 years making beautiful music together.

He was Linda’s  Mr. “Wanderful”…he was always wandering off as a child, which led his mom to tie him to the clothesline so he wouldn’t leave the yard.  He wandered in his youth, with each family move (upwards of 24 times). His wandering took him all over the world, to Egypt, India, Europe, Peru, and more.  In the end, his wandering and dementia led him to need constant care which he received at Legacy House.  Even with COVID restrictions, we were allowed the privilege to “Grampie-sit” and keep him safely “grounded”.

Ron is a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served as a missionary in New Zealand where he was able to volunteer his labor in building a temple in Hamilton.  He also served on the General Sunday School Curriculum Committee writing lesson manuals.  He was a beloved Gospel Doctrine teacher, for which he spent hours meticulously creating charts, handouts, and displays for each lesson.  Being the ward and stake organist was a calling he truly loved.  He also served in many leadership roles including Bishop of the East Midvale 7th Ward “Seventh Heaven”, a counselor in several bishoprics, and many High Counsels.

“Dr. H'' was a title he earned and deserved after years of schooling.  He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Elementary Education.  Later, he earned a Master's Degree from the University of Utah followed by his Doctorate from BYU.  He spent his career sharing his love of learning as an elementary school teacher, a principal at Webster Elementary, Twin Peaks Elementary, Eisenhower Jr. High, and Evergreen Jr. High.  He retired serving as an administrator in the Granite School District Offices.

To know dad was to love dad.  He served everyone and anyone who crossed his path. It took 4 hours to shovel the walk…because he’d shovel the whole neighborhood.  He baked bread or pies almost every Saturday so he could deliver them to neighbors on Sunday. When he went walking, if a someone's newspaper was on the curb, he would stop to take the paper right up to their doorstep.  He was an avid “Thrifter”, and genuine collector of 'things'... especially BOXES!

Ron is survived by his eternal companion, Linda and his “4 Angels'': Connie (Scott) Mooy, Kay Lin, Karen (John) Springer, and Christy (Matt) Vuyk.  As well as 12 adoring grandchildren Tate Mooy, Erica (Collin) Brown, Ashlin (Parker) Awerkamp, Whitney, Baylee, Olivia, Samuel, Braden Springer, Rachel, Allyson, AJ, and Lucy Vuyk.  One great-granddaughter, Everly Awerkamp, and his sister, Carol Jean Orenstein.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wilford Ivo, and brother-in-law, Ed Orenstein.
