Donald Kerry Hyland (Papa)

Donald Kerry Hyland, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on July 16, 2020 of natural causes at 68 years old. He did not die from Covid-19. He was born on February 08, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Carins O’Brien Hyland and Rhoda Robertson Hyland. He was sealed in the Salt Lake City temple to his wife Jacqueline Grant Hyland. They just celebrated their 49th anniversary on May 21.  He attended the University of Utah where he received a BS degree in Finance. Throughout his life he was a bank manager, owned his own Title Company, and was currently a Realtor. He was a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. He and Jackie served a service mission together in the Pioneer Stake where he loved working with the people! Missionary work was so important to him and he loved it.  We know that he is currently teaching the Gospel in Heaven.

Don and Jackie were charter members of the Mormon Youth Symphony and Chorus. This is where they met at 17 years old as they were both section leaders. Don had a glorious singing voice and loved sharing that gift with others. We are going to miss hearing him sing.

Don grew up in Salt Lake City and had a wonderful childhood. He was very proud to be an Eagle Scout. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in which he held many callings, including being a Melchizedek Priesthood holder. Many of his favorite callings were working with the youth. He loved the youth so much and was a second father to everyone in the neighborhood and every friend his children brought home. Everyone who met him loved his infectious smile and his incredible bear hugs.

Don was an AVID University of Utah fan who lived for the day that football started in the fall. The best part was attending the games with his kids. What brought him so much joy was attending his kids and grandkids activities. His grandkids were his world and were the love of his life, next to his wife.

Don is survived by his wife Jackie Hyland. His children, Tracy Painter (Chad), Kerry Hyland (Tiffany), Grant Hyland (Alli), Kristi Ernstsen (Brock), Angie Dodge (Keith), 15 amazing grandkids, His brothers Richard (Goria) and Dennis (Prudy).

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 22, 2020 and will be by invitation only due to the circumstances with Covid-19. There will be a viewing on Tuesday July 21, 2020 from 6-8pm at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E Bengal Blvd (7600 S) Cottonwood Heights, Utah. There will not be a viewing before the funeral.
