Don Falkner

Funeral Recording

Don Vier Falkner passed away peacefully at his home in Sandy, Utah on August 20th, 2022. Don was born to Robert and Anna Pearl Falkner on January 23rd, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Don was raised in Kaysville, Utah. He graduated from Davis High School where he met his high school sweetheart, Colleen Fisher (deceased). They were married and had the blessing of 5 children Lynn Falkner (Michaela), Ann Bogdanich (John), Mark Falkner (Sidnee), Dane Falkner (Mary Jo), and Misty Simpson. They later divorced and he married Elsa Anderson, and they were blessed with a son, Troy Wilde (Sandy). They later divorced and he married Lucy Rose Keller (deceased), and they were blessed with 4 children, stepson, Ed Kinsey (Debra), Scott Falkner (Kristy), Kelly Jessop (Ariel), and Peggy Morgan (Richard). They later divorced, he married Janet St. John (deceased), and they were blessed with a daughter, Nicole Falkner (James). They divorced and he then married Mary Tucker on June 7th, 2008, and inherited 3 stepchildren: Jeff Vance (Carla), Todd Vance (Sandy), and Jody Vance (Michelle).

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Pryor Falkner; sister, Joyce Ann Falkner; sister, Carole Jean Falkner; grandson, Samuel Mark Falkner; and Granddaughter, Dusty Brown. He is survived by his wife Mary, his children, 28 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Don’s posterity was always surprised to learn that when he attended Davis High School that he was a Davis Darts Cheerleader. After high school, Don attended Stevens-Henager College. While attending school he worked for Skaggs Drug Store delivering pharmaceuticals, until he started working for Readymix as an accountant. After Readymix, he started a business in 1959, with Cecil Whiting, called Military Equipment & Parts Company, also known as MEPCO 4x4. A few of Don’s children worked alongside him at MEPCO over the years and he eventually sold the business to his son, Mark, in 1995. Don remained a frequent contributor to the family business until the last few months of his life. The employees always enjoyed his visits, and he enjoyed building relationships over the years. Don was known for his work ethic. He was always working on something whether it was for the family business, tinkering in his shop at home, or tending to his garden.

Undoubtedly Don’s greatest joy in life was his family. He enjoyed family gatherings, supporting his children and their posterity throughout life’s events. Don didn’t attend a family function without his pockets lined with candy to entice the grandkids to give him a hug. When he arrived, he was swiftly met with an army of small hands looking to satisfy their sweet tooth. He had a special charm about him and always expressed his love to his family whether it was a hug and a kiss or an I love you. While Don’s formal days of being a cheerleader ended after high school, he always remained his family’s biggest cheerleader and encouraged them in any endeavor they partook in.

Don cherished his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed attending the temple and working on family history. One of his favorite callings at church was being an usher. He enjoyed welcoming people to church and sneaking treats to the kids as they entered the chapel.

Don’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude and thanks to Don’s wife, Mary, for her love and care of Don, especially in the final months of his earthly life. Mary and the family would like to thank Rachel, Mikenna, Gage, Chris, and Hilary from Inspiration Hospice for their professional and loving care.
