Our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, Diane Stewart Hinckley, peacefully returned to her heavenly home on January 19, 2020, after fighting for 12 years against the onset of early Alzheimers. We will forever remember her love even when she no longer could!
Diane was born September 29, 1947, in Seattle, WA, as the only child to Hubert & Ivy Fern Stewart. During a visit home while on break from attending BYU, she met her sweetheart Harold T. Hinckley, marrying him in the Salt Lake Temple on May 15, 1968. They were best friends, partners and the definition of eternal love for 51 years. Harold attended to Diane in every way since her diagnosis.
From this love, came their family of 5 daughters and 1 son. Diane was a generous and talented mom who would stay up long hours hand-sewing Halloween costumes, making yet another batch of homemade cookies so they never ran out, or helping with even the most complex of homework. She was an equally charitable grandmother who had a special way of ensuring each one felt uniquely loved.
Diane was baptized at 8 as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ. She regularly attended church, enjoying singing hymns and excelled at any calling she was given. As an only child, she was very close to her parents who taught her the importance of education, style and honoring the woman she was.
She graduated from the Univ of Washington in 1972 in Nursing, having known she wanted to be in this field since the age of 10. Her professional career included 32 years in nursing and administration with Intermountain Healthcare. She was proud to be a part of saving lives and worked hard to balance her family and work.
In addition to all this, she had amazing and enviable skills in all forms of handiwork, with a special talent for calligraphy. The pieces she has created will be cherished for years to come.
She is preceded in death by her parents, who would’ve been so proud of their daughter. She is survived by her loving husband, Harold; son, Adam (Kate Bell); daughters, Allison, Angela (Brian Stevens), Amanda (Brian Clark), Andrea (Chuck Stackhouse) and Ann (Justin Hamilton); along with 11 loving grandchildren.
Diane’s valiant fight against Alzheimers will be a constant reminder to all who loved her about the importance of cherishing each moment and treasuring every memory.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25th at the Brighton 5th Ward on 2301 E. Bengal Blvd at 12 noon, with a visitation beforehand from 10:30-11:30am. An additional visitation will be held on Friday, January 24th from 6-8pm at Cannon Mortuary. Interment will be held immediately following the service on the 25th at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 E 10600 S, Sandy).
