Dennis Briggs

November 16, 1944 — October 31, 2021

Dennis Brent Briggs, our dearly beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on October 31, 2021 at his home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Dennis, having lived a long and happy life, exemplified courage, patience, and love as he battled serious medical issues in the recent years. His battle, well fought until the very end, took him just a few weeks before his 77th birthday.

Dennis was born on November 16, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to loving and adoring parents Dennis Fielding Briggs and Florence Armitage. Dennis was their "miracle" baby, as they thought that they could never have children.

Dennis served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Costa Rica from 1965-1967. His first day in that tropical paradise, he being as green as the verdant countryside surrounding him, began the most beautiful of love stories. In search of housing, he met the daughter of a devoted church member. This Costa Rican beauty, Adela Viquez, would one day become his devoted wife. After returning from the mission, Dennis found his dating experiences to be vapid and lacking. After more than a year of trying to get back into life in Utah, he decided to contact the beautiful girl he had met years ago and so far away. Closing the thousands of miles of distance between them, he sent his photograph and 5 dozen yellow roses to Adela in Costa Rica, telling her that he could not forget her. In 1970, they married in Salt Lake and spent the rest of his 51 fiercely faithful and devoted years together.

Dennis enjoyed music, nature, photography, cooking, painting, writing poetry, and literature. He had a naturally inquisitive mind, a great sense of humor, and a beautifully expressed creative streak. Although being extremely talented in the creative arts, most of all, Dennis enjoyed spending time with his family, to whom he dedicated his entire life and heart to.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Adela, his son, John Briggs, his daughter, Laura Briggs-Fenn, son-in-law, Jared Fenn, and two grandchildren, Kamryn and Grayson Fenn.

A graveside service and interment will be held for Dennis on Wednesday, November 3rd at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, located at 3115 Bengal Boulevard, Cottonwood Heights, Utah at 2:00 pm. Yellow roses will adorn his casket, an emblem of honor to his beautiful love story that lives on.
