Afton Leatham

November 29, 1942 — August 16, 2019

Afton Olena Leatham, our loving mother, grandmother, and sister passed away on 8/16/19 at Rocky Mountain Care. With her daughter by her side she peacefully ended her valiant battle with a life full of medical issues.

Born November 29, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah to parents Wendell Miller Jensen and VonNeda Larsen. She was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her entire life. Afton graduated from Highland High School and was the only one of her siblings to receive a Bachelor’s degree. She got her Bachelor’s of Science in social work with a minor in gerontology from Sacramento State University. She was a part of The Golden Key National Honors Society for graduating in the top 15%. Despite her physical challenges Afton always found ways to keep busy working hard at different jobs over the years. Throughout her life she very much enjoyed sewing, canning, and singing.

Preceded by her parents and husband (Divorced) Lynn C. Leatham. Survived by daughter, Lara Leatham, grandson, Jamie Leatham, siblings Valera Pyper (George), Allen Jensen (Venice), Doris Sudweeks (Ron), James Jensen (Donna), and Paula Carter (Wendell).

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 23rd at 11:00am at the LDS chapel, 7265 South 2700 West, West Jordan, UT 84084. Visitation will be held before the service starting at 9:30am. Interment will be held at Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Rd, Salt Lake City, UT 84123.

We are so grateful for the great care Afton received from Rocky Mountain Care – Hunter Hollow and all of their staff in her final years.
