Virginia Nora Roberts

With heavy hearts Virginia Nora Roberts passed away peacefully in the very early morning of September 2, 2026 surrounded by her family.

She was born In Huntington, Utah on January 3, 1944 to her loving parents Alfred and Nora Grundvig. She spent the first years of her life there before moving North to the Bountiful area. She grew up on a farm enjoying the simplicity amongst cornfields and fruit orchards. Then in her earlier teen years her father was called back to the coal mines of Huntington canyon. There she was given more responsibilities helping care and raise her 9 other siblings. At the end of her time living there her father was injured and they migrated back to the Salt Lake City area again. She graduated from South High School in 1962.

Virginia was married to the love of her life, Clark G Thornton, on April 22, 1968. A little over a year later they welcomed the first of 7 children into this world. During the time of being a devoted mother she also worked full time at the Bountiful Shoe Repair where she thrived and enjoyed her work very much. After her youngest child was born her and her husband were called, once again, back to the Huntington area. During her time there she was involved with her community which allowed her to acquire many skills.

In the early 90’s her family moved back North where she started her career specializing in the hardware department at True Value Family Stores. She was well loved there and personally requested by many return customers regularly. She prided herself on being able to know on hand every item in her department, where it was, and what needed to be special ordered. For this reason she was reliable, and she kept her section of the store exceptionally organized.

Virginia’s devotion to God was strong. She did whatever was required of her to stay clear on the path she felt was God’s path. She dry-fasted religiously every Thursday. She attended church every Sunday with dedication and persistence. Her love for God was the driving force within her life.

Virginia was a woman of many talents and gifts. She loved to spend her time tending her flowers in her garden. She had a strong green thumb and you could find plants well maintained and loved inside and outside of her home. She also was a gifted seamstress. She enjoyed many movies and a variety of music. She spent many hours reading and enjoying word searches. She was resourceful and if she couldn’t buy something she would instead make it. She was a phenomenal packer being able to fit an entire house in the trunk of a single car. She had tall walls and some hard ridges until you earned her trust and love. If you were lucky enough to earn that love she gave it unconditionally and hard. She made sure those she loved knew it and made sure to call each person on their birthday and send a card every Christmas. And if someone got sick she was the person to call. She always had every remedy for every illness readily available to make you feel well again. She was strong, independent, persistent, and stubborn. Her attributes live on strongly through her children and all those who come after her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, her brothers Clifford, Arnold, Lester, Dan, and Hyrum, her sisters Shelley and Sharon, as well as her best friends Rocky and Rolean. She is survived by her 7 children Kirt (Tracy), Lynn, Aaron (Michelle), Matt (Jasmine), Anabelle (Chris), Daniel (Devan), and Melyni (Alden). She has 44 grandchildren and around 33 great-grandchildren with a family that continues to grow. She had a big heart which extended her love towards her best friend Rocky’s 6 children and their children too.

There will be a viewing available for Virginia on Monday, September 7th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the LDCC Chapel located at 1880 West Parkway Blvd. West Valley City, Utah 84119.

The funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 8th. The morning viewing will be from 9:00am to 9:45am and the funeral will start at 10:00am and go until 12:00pm and it will also be held in the LDCC Chapel.

Graveside Services will be held immediately after the funeral at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
