Steven Crawley

October 20, 1951 — December 14, 2019

Steven Dean Crawley was born to Dean and Gloria Crawley on October 20, 1951. He grew up in East Millcreek and attended Skyline High School where he made many lasting friendships, was captain of the swim team and was proud to have been a valued member of the kazoo band. He graduated from the University of Utah and University of Utah School of Law. He was honored to have served and helped many people as an attorney for 40 years.

Steve passed away in the early hours of December 14th, in the ICU, surrounded by those he loved most on both sides of the veil following a week of battling congestive heart failure. His family was blessed to spend quiet hours by his side and, of course, kept up tradition by watching his favorite Christmas movie, “Black Adder’s Christmas Carol.” He chuckled a lot. It was perfect.

A truly wonderful father, grandfather and husband, family was his focus and his joy. He married Charlene Farr August 10, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple. He is eternally proud of their three children: Taylor (Tiffany), Marshall (Kelley) and Camille.

Steve lived a life of honor and integrity filled with service to others. His father taught him to be involved in the community, and he worked to help organizations and individuals become their best selves. He truly enjoyed the six years he spent on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity. It touched his heart to be able to help lift peoples’ lives.

Ever the diligent teacher, he taught many how to face hardships with courage and faith. While enduring tremendous health challenges, he continued serving others especially spending every moment he could with his grandchildren. He gave of his time and energy to ensure that they knew that they are dearly loved by him. He lived for the sweet, small moments with them, and they will remember the many hikes, trips to museums, launching rockets, and watching old monster movies. No Gampy could have done more.

He had a wide range of interests and a thirst for knowledge. He never stopped learning. He had an answer for any question and could never be beat at Trivial Pursuit. As someone who also appreciated the absurd, he will be celebrated by Mystery Science Theater and Monty Python’s Flying Circus as their most loyal and slightly twisted consumer.

He will be remembered by his ward family as a brilliant gospel doctrine teacher, by his friends as the one who always sent cards for celebrations and authored ridiculously silly skits, by his neighbors as the first one to help and the last one to leave in an emergency, and by his coworkers as a mentor.

Steve is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren; Annalynn Jane (11), Owen David (8), and Emmitt Steven (5) as well as his mother and siblings, Brent (Patricia) and Christine. He was preceded in death by his sweet father who we know welcomed him home with rejoicing and love.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2019, at 12:00 noon in the Sandy Granite Stake Center located at 2535 E Newcastle Drive.
