Stephen Brent Carroll

We are heartbroken by the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, Stephen Brent Carroll, who died of a heart arrhythmia on October 1, 2026. His loss has left a deep void in the lives of his loved ones, and we are grateful for the many loving family members and friends for their sustaining faith and prayers at this difficult time.

Stephen was born February 20, 1970, in Murray, Utah, to Harold Brent Carroll and Janice Sabey Carroll, the oldest of three sons. He grew up in Cottonwood Heights with his brothers, Jason and Tyler, who were his closest companions throughout his life. Stephen attended Brighton High School, where he built lifelong friendships that he cherished throughout his life. Stephen’s family and friends all knew him as a kind and warm person who naturally supported others.

Throughout his life, Stephen was a devout and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a full-time mission in the Missouri St. Louis Mission, an experience that deepened his testimony of the Savior and shaped the rest of his life. Throughout his adult years he found great joy in serving in the Church and was a particularly gifted teacher of the gospel.

After returning from his mission, Stephen graduated from Brigham Young University and went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine. He then completed his residency at Deaconess Medical Center and at Loma Linda University and a fellowship at the University of Southern California. Stephen became a gifted neuroradiologist, respected for his professional knowledge, careful judgment and dedication to his patients. His skill in teleradiology was highly sought after by multiple firms across the country, and he took great satisfaction in helping so many people he would never meet in person.

Stephen loved the outdoors and could often be found hiking a mountain trail, descending to a canyon floor or fishing at the family’s favorite spots in the Uinta Mountains. He was an avid fan of BYU sports and rarely missed a chance to cheer on his Cougars.

In May of 2018, Stephen was sealed to the love of his life and eternal companion, Karinne Hansen in the Laie Hawaii Temple. Together they built a home in Alpine, Utah, and lovingly blended their families into one. Stephen and Karinne loved to travel together, and some of his happiest days were spent exploring new places at her side. Stephen’s greatest joy was being a father to his children, Melany, Ethan, Taylan, Porter and Piper, as well as his stepchildren Hunter, Brinley, and Ava. Stephen’s children were his greatest treasure, and he cherished every moment he spent with them and with his grandchildren, Tristan, Declan, Weslie and Haven. He cheered them on, celebrated every success, gave them wise advice, and made sure each of them knew how deeply they were loved. He taught them by example to love the Savior and always take care of one another.

Stephen and Karinne were pleased and proudly welcomed Derrik, Kenedi, Paige and BaiLee into the family through marriage and all are considered their children. Stephen valued spending time with his wife and children, with other family members and in-laws in family events and activities. He loved to host swim parties and holiday gatherings with his brothers and their families. Being together as a family at these gatherings are among our most cherished memories of him.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Karinne; his children, Melany (Derrik), Ethan (Kenedi), Taylan (Paige), Porter, and Piper; his stepchildren, Hunter (BaiLee), Brinley, and Ava; his grandchildren, Tristan, Declan, Weslie, and Haven; his father, Brent; and his brothers, Jason (Stefani) and Tyler (Shanna). He was preceded in death by his mother, Janice.

We are strengthened by the family members and friends who have encircled us with their love, support and prayers during this challenging time. We find comfort in the knowledge that families can be together forever and that we will see Stephen again.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Alpine Sixth Ward Chapel located at 901 East Village Way, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may be received one hour before the service. Interment will be at the Alpine City North Cemetery on Pioneer Road – 600 North, Alpine, Utah.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the General Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or to another worthy cause.
