Stanley Lee Peters

June 10, 1953 — August 23, 2025

Stanley Lee Peters, age 72, passed away in the early morning of August 23, 2025 with family at his side.

Stan was born on June 10, 1953 in Provo, Utah to Leroy Raymond Peters and Janice Louise Wright. He was the eldest of eight siblings. Growing up in a military family, he lived in Utah, Texas, Kansas, Alaska, and Nebraska. He attended Wake Robin Elementary School, Lincoln Jr. High and Bellevue High School in Nebraska. While the rest of his family continued on to Okinawa, Japan he attended Brigham Young University graduating with a bachelor’s degree and was a true blue BYU fan for life.

Stan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in Germany from 1973-1975 where he touched many lives over the course of two years. He has served the Lord as a Primary and Sunday School Teacher, Elders Quorum President, and as both Ward and Stake Executive Secretary.

He married Debra Hunt in the Logan, Utah Temple on June, 25, 1976 and loved her all the days of his life. Together they had eight children. He cherished the times he spent with them and his grandchildren. They were the joy in his life.

Stan has always had a spirit of adventure. When he was about 3 years old, he learned how to open the car doors from inside the car. His parents thought, “Isn’t that cute!” Until they noticed that he was no longer standing on the back seat (before seat belts). Mom screamed. Dad stopped. Mom jumped out and ran back and picked him up off the road. Only a few scrapes and bruises. Not so cute anymore :)

Stan loved working with computer programs and was a Sr. Computing Specialist at BYU for 39 years. He loved his job and his co-workers. Many of his children have continued those same computer skills. Stan was a HAM Radio volunteer for the Provo Sheriff’s Department. He loved participating in the Utah Shake Out Emergency Preparedness Drills.

He was a Scout leader in his ward and went on outings with his sons, While on a scout snowmobiling activity he was in an accident, resulting in a cervical spinal cord compression injury which affected him from the neck down. He worked hard with physical therapists and was eventually able to walk short distances with a walker. While at one of the nursing facilities, he was injured. That injury never healed and would eventually leave him bedridden for the rest of his life. He missed being able to spend time with his children and grandchildren. His family was the most important thing to him and he thought about them and prayed for them every day.

Through it all he still kept his optimism, was adventurous, even went down the Alpine Slide! He never quit trying, kept his smile and sense of humor. He loved getting ice cream for dessert, LOVED root beer floats, pistachio pudding, Salted Nut Rolls, small cartons of milk, cheese and Fiddle Faddle. He loved his nightly scripture study with his mom, and sisters Karen and Cindy and looked forward to the weekly Sunday zoom meetings with his mom and all his siblings. Special THANK YOU to Chelsea with Belle Vie Home Health & Hospice! We rejoice that he is now free from his earthly cares and once again standing 6’2”!
