Shirley Anne Corbett Russell
July 19, 1937 – March 24, 2018

Shirley Anne Corbett Russell passed away peacefully on March 24th surrounded by her loving family.  She courageously survived breast cancer in 1997 and valiantly fought it’s return in 2016 with grace and dignity as long as she could.

Shirley was born July 19, 1937, to Gaylord William Corbett and Nellie Gertrude Morse in Cheyenne, Wyoming.  Raised in a very humble home she loved her childhood.  She graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1955 and immediately started her long secretarial career at F.E. Warren Air Force Base where she met the love of her life, Frank Perry Russell, Jr, a southern gentleman.  They were married in August of 1967 and were later sealed in the Salt Lake temple in July of 1976.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Gay Jo, Patricia, Betty, and Carol, and brother, Steve.  She is survived by her husband, Frank Perry; sisters, Judy and Belinda, and brothers Stanley and David; children, Kathryn (Jerold) of Riverton, Sandy (Norm) of Draper, Phil of Salt Lake City, Vance of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Craig of Bountiful; grandchildren, Tyson, Sarah (Kerry), Josh, April (Paul), Anna, Samantha (Blake), Amanda, and Andrew; and great-grandchildren, Boston, Mason, Navy, Tanner, Madsen Perry, Mackenzie, and Josie.

Shirley worked for over 40 years retiring twice, once from government service (BLM) and once from International Paper Company.   She loved her career, had an amazing work ethic that she passed on to her children and grandchildren, and was always admired by her bosses and co-workers.  She had a love for service and volunteered when-ever and where-ever she could including the Germantown Performing Arts Center (TN), Alta View Hospital, Sandy Senior Center, and an LDS Inter-City service mission.

Shirley stayed active and busy throughout her entire life.  She loved to travel with her family.  She loved learning and reading.  She loved genealogy and temple work.   She loved being a homemaker, always decorating and beautifying her home.  She loved her family and enjoyed activities with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Shirley will forever be in our hearts and her beautiful example of Christ-like love will live on in the many people whose lives she touched.

Her family would like to give special thanks to her doctors, nurses and staff of Utah Cancer Specialists and Quality Home Health and Hospice.  Additional thanks to many friends and neighbors, including the Hidden Oaks Ward for many hours of heartfelt service.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018 at the Hidden Oaks Ward Building, 11755 South Highland Drive, Sandy, UT.  Friends may visit with the family on Thursday evening, March 29th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 Bengal Blvd (7600 South), and at the church on Friday morning from 11:00-11:45 a.m. prior to services.  Interment: Memorial Mountain View Cemetery.
