Shirley Bernice Werrett Larsen

1931-2016

Shirley Bernice Werrett Larsen, our tender hearted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, returned to our Father in Heaven and loving husband Tuesday, May 31st, 2016 surrounded by her loved ones.  She was 84.  Mom fought a courageous battle against Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
Mom was born on August 9, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Rolan and Ada Werrett. She is survived by her sister Jeannene (and Budge) Hyde.  She loved going for bike rides into the nearby mountains and foothills with friends.  She was often called a “book worm” because she frequently had a book in her hand and loved to read.  She married Royal Blaine Larsen on July 17, 1954 in Verdun, France.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Together as a couple they made many friends wherever they lived.  They enjoyed camping, hiking, sleigh riding and tobogganing in the great outdoors.  They had 4 wonderful children: Bryan (and Jackie) Larsen, David (and Susan) Larsen, Luanne Pedersen and Susan (and Tod) Wheelwright, whom they loved very much.  They had 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  Mom made sure to attend all the important events in her grandchildren’s lives.  She was truly loved by each and every one of them. Mom’s blonde brownies and chocolate cake were legendary!
We have truly been blessed with the most wonderful mother a family could ask for.  She is the epitome of selflessness, obedience, kindness and unconditional love. Selfishly, she will be deeply missed. However, we are ecstatic for her reunion with our dad who passed away in 1981. Our mom worked tirelessly to provide for us and was such a strong woman to raise a family on her own.  We only wish we could have had a glimpse of that perfect reunion.
Mom was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings; relief society, Sunday school, primary, and a devoted visiting teacher.  Mom gave of herself selflessly to all she served.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 12:00 pm with a viewing from 11:00-11:45 am at the Brighton 6th Ward, 2925 E Bengal Blvd (7800 S), Cottonwood Heights. Her viewing will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E Bengal Blvd (7600 S), Cottonwood Heights.  She will be laid to rest alongside her love, Blaine in Elysian Burial Gardens.
