Ruth Marlene Pehrson Hill

July 4, 1934 – August 10, 2014

Ruth Marlene Pehrson Hill slipped unexpectedly and peacefully from us on Sunday, August 10, 2014.  She was born 4 July 1934, in Pocatello, Idaho, the oldest of eight children born to Paul L. and Ruth E. Ellefsen Pehrson.  She spent many happy hours with her family in Salt Lake City and at the family cabin in Driggs, Idaho.   She served as a missionary in the Swedish Mission from 1955 to 1956 and always served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Ruth excelled in school and continued learning throughout her life.  Ruth graduated from Brigham Young University, and she spent her career teaching in elementary and middle schools.  Ruth loved to travel, and she visited many places around the world, enjoying each trip with enthusiasm.  Her other interests included sports, reading, playing card games, visiting friends and relatives, and scrapbooking.  She’ll be missed by her walking friend, Barbara, and everyone at Cottonwood Spa.  She was active in community and civic activities.  Her crochet and embroidery skills were lovely, and in the last few years she’d learned to piece beautiful quilts, which she lovingly gifted to children and grandchildren.

In 1973 Ruth married Bertram Pack Hill in the Salt Lake Temple, and she became an instant mother to four sons and a daughter.  Family is her greatest legacy and was her greatest joy.  She worked countless hours in the extraction center.  She honored her ancestors and delighted in family history work.  She adored her siblings and their children.  She lovingly supported her children, loved their spouses, and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Most of all, she was a constant loving companion to Bert in every aspect of life.

Ruth slipped unexpectedly and peacefully from us on Sunday, August 10, 2014, after receiving the love of her siblings, children, grandchildren, and her sweetheart.  She is survived by her husband; children B. Craig Hill, Jeffrey D. (Gayle) Hill, Jenny Lynn (Tracy) Hawkins, and Spencer P. (Aundrea) Hill; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings Janet (Wayne) Brown, Pete (Karen) Pehrson, David (Gloria) Pehrson, Karen (Bob) Allred, Pat (David) Ricks, and sister-in-law Lindy Pehrson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Richard "Rick" Pehrson and Nels Pehrson; and a son, Layne B. Hill.

Friends and family may visit at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Boulevard (7600 S.) on Wednesday, August 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Further visitation will be on Thursday, August 14 from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Brighton 3 rd Ward, 2301 E. Bengal Boulevard.  The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m.  Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 N Street, Salt Lake City.
