Robert Frates Brighton, born August 10, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Reuben Miller Brighton and Lenora Jensine Frates, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011, in West Valley City, Utah. He married Ruby Marie Hansen on August 30, 1946. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, June 24, 1948. Ruby passed away July 20, 2003. At the age of 80, Bob married Lucy Wright Jones on October 14, 2004; she passed away September 17, 2009.
Bob served our country during WWII in the Army’s 169th Infantry in the Asia Pacific Theater.
He was a great story teller and always had something funny to say.
Bob worked for Menlove Construction and Development as a Forman for 47 years, having built many buildings along the Wasatch Front.
He was an avid fisherman who was ready to go whenever the boat was ready.
He loved to go fishing at Silver Lake in Brighton, Utah which was named by his great grandfather. He was also very proud of his heritage. Bob was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings both on the ward and stake levels.
The family would like to thank Applegate Hospice for the loving care of their dad.
Bob is survived by his son Lynn (Sue), daughter Lorraine (Jim) Smith; seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many step-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents, siblings and children Don, Jimmie, JoAnn (Lawson) Millett and a great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 20, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.)
A viewing will be held Sunday, June 19, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Cannon Mortuary and the day of the service from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
