Richard Robert Barker, Jr., lovingly known as "Pa" to his family, passed away at home on June 10, 2023. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 4, 1944 to Richard and Beth Barker. Rich spent his childhood in Magna, Utah. During his youth, he spent many summers at Camp Tracy up Millcreek Canyon as part of the staff. It was here that a young Lynn Judy caught his eye. They developed a friendship that eventually led to marriage. During high school he was also involved in a music group called The Strummers. Rich played the guitar and this group played at many assemblies and other events in the community. He graduated from Cyprus High School in 1962.
After high school, Rich enlisted in the army reserves and trained at Fort Ord. He loved his country and flew the flag at his home daily. Once his training was done, he faithfully served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the North British mission from 1963-1965. Rich had a great love for England and the people he served.
When he returned home from his mission he married his love, Lynn Judy, on October 7, 1965 in the Salt Lake temple. Together they had three sons, Rick, Brett and Rand. Rich loved being a dad to his three boys and made their childhood full of fun, laughter and love.
Rich loved to garden and always had a beautiful yard. This is a skill he passed on to his sons.
Rich spent the first part of his career in the glass and window industry in management and ownership. At the time of his retirement he was working for the LDS church. Rich served in many church callings throughout his life and was an amazing example to many.
Pa loved his family and found great joy in spending time with them. He is survived by his wife, Lynn, his three sons Rick (Kristin), Brett (Kim) and Rand (Stacee), fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren with another one on her way. He is also survived by his siblings Larry (Chris) Barker and Beth Ann Catlin as well as many other nieces, nephews and extended family.
Thank you to all the medical staff that attended to Rich in his time of need.
