Our dear mother, wife, sister, and friend, Sister Rhoda Jean Brown Kingston, 80 years, passed away June 29, 2026, in Murray, Utah. She was born June 12, 1946 in Clementsville, Idaho to Ray and Carol Brown and the world was changed for the better because of her.
Sister Rhoda grew up with 6 sisters and 5 brothers at the Brown Farm in Idaho. She counted every one of her siblings as a good friend and it was plain to see she loved each one of them. She had a happy childhood and adored both her father and her mother. She had many happy memories working on the farms and various stewardships. She married the love of her life, Ellery Merlin Kingston, on March 16, 1968 and they enjoyed 58 years of a wonderful life together. She supported her husband in all they did. She is survived by her husband, Ellery, 11 children (Eric, Grace, April, Cynthia, Lori, Kyle, Scott, Todd, Shaun, Ryan, Michael) 180 grandchildren, and 220 great grandchildren.
She was in education for more than 30 years, taught preschool, elementary, jr. High, and high school and every year she impacted so many lives for the better. She was patient, kind, worked tirelessly until her students achieved substantial success in whatever she was teaching them. She was often the favorite teacher of whatever grade she taught. In 2011 Ensign tested the entire 7th grade on the state CRT tests. Sister Rhoda's 7th grade math class was the highest scoring math class in the state of Utah. She was a principal in both Ensign Elementary and Morning Star Academy and was our spiritual compass and strength. She truly loved every one of her students and her mission in teaching and in her job as a principal was to help every student achieve their full potential both academically and spiritually.
She had many talents. She was an avid gardner, artist, and painter. She loved music, started Zion's Music and Arts Society and Zion's Orchestra, and enjoyed learning to play the piano and violin. She was an excellent cook, writer, student, and a master seamstress.
Sister Rhoda lived each day as if Jesus Christ were by her side and had a perfect faith. She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Law of Satisfaction and very conscientiously lived both in all she did. She taught her children to love the Gospel and the Law of Satisfaction as well. She had a kind and charitable heart and brought the Spirit of the Lord to everyone she knew. She was a spiritual giant in every aspect of her life and has been a perfect example of a mother of Zion. We will all miss her dearly.
