Reddik Ryan Gibbons passed away peacefully at home, in the loving arms of his parents, on May 3, 2023, in Sandy, Utah.
Reddik was born to Tyler and Jill Gibbons on August 10, 2016, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is the second child of his parents’ three children. At five months old, Reddik started having debilitating seizures. His epilepsy was caused by a brain malformation called cortical dysplasia, his seizures were difficult to control. Reddik was unable to develop beyond a typical one year old child and his medical difficulties eventually took his life. Even though Reddik was never able to walk or talk, he showed his love, determination, and spirit each day.
Reddik loved off-roading in his wheelchair. He loved all the bumps in the roads and sidewalks. He loved going fast down hills, throwing his arms open wide to feel the bumps and the wind. He loved to go on walks with his mom and their dog. He always made sure to eat as many leaves as he could off every bush he grabbed on every walk he went on. He loved touching and scratching every light pole he came across.
While living in Boston, Reddik explored as much of New England with his parents as he could. He enjoyed spending the day at the beach, feeling the cool breeze while watching his sister play in the sand. Reddik really loved watching any door open and close, but his favorite doors to watch were garage doors and elevator doors. He loved to chew on everything. He especially loved chewing on plastic straws, paper, sticks, crayons, markers, books, and charging cords. His impressive flexibility allowed easy access to his favorite item to chew: the socks on his feet.
Despite his challenges, Reddik was always loved and wanted. He is survived by his parents Tyler and Jill, his sister Mia, his brother Teddy, Mima, GiGi, Pop Pop, great grandparents, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins who will all miss him immensely.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 13th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 2535 Newcastle Drive in Sandy at 11:00 am. Those who cannot attend in person can view a broadcast of the service here:https://zoom.us/j/98593897424
