1943 Patricia 2026

Patricia Monahan Neves

November 3, 1943 — January 14, 2026

Cottonwood Heights

Pat passed away peacefully on 14 January 2026 in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 82. She was born and raised in Ogden, Utah. Graduated from Ogden High School and Weber State University. She worked as a kindergarten teacher before starting a family—eventually living in Germany, Arizona, and Utah.

Her happiest place, aside from being with her kids and grandkids, was her Grandma Barker’s farm in North Ogden, where she had many cherished memories on what she considered to be holy ground. Memories such as gardening with grandma, being chased by turkeys, and candling eggs as a kid, which caused her to only eat eggs that were cooked so hard they could be “used as roofing material.” The hollow at the farm was her haven, and she dragged (or had kids and friends drag) wood, metal, rusty nails, chicken wire, rocks, and anything farm related, transforming her backyard into her own version of Grandma’s place.

Pat was a young adventurer who travelled across the country and to Europe with her college best friends. Her children are convinced they still have not heard the full extent of some of her adventures. Her travels took her to dozens of countries and she passed that love of travel down to her children.

Pat was a gifted artist and musician. She played the piano and organ in church and the temple, but she would not tolerate hymns played at a funereal pace—pick up that tempo people! Pat wrote her own music about life, God, her family, and even her favorite bookstore. (Hi, Benchmark Books!) At the age of 76, she was playing the organ at the Salt Lake City Temple until it closed in December 2019 for renovations.

Her greatest joy in life was being a mother and a grandmother. She had six children, Shannon (Mike) Moore Jennifer (Dylan) Neves, William Neves (stillborn), Michelle (Ryan) Brainard, Corinne (James) Sroykum, and Matthew Neves. Her life was changed when she became a grandmother to her five incredible grandchildren Leo, Nathan, Isla, Max, and Rory, which unlocked a new part of her heart for the last twelve years.

Pat was a passionate collector of books, art, pictures of her family, garden decor, rocks, and quotes. She loved the thrill of the hunt at thrift stores and was an avid reader to the very end. So go to your local thrift store and find a good book to read. And maybe check for any unappreciated art work and stuffed animals—especially stuffed cows—while there.

Pat lived her life with strength and resilience, and to use one of her favorite quotes she attributed to Colonel Sherman T. Potter from M*A*S*H, “You have to hit what’s pitched.”

Funeral services will be held Friday, 23 January 2026 at 11am at the LDS stake center at 2895 E. Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights, Utah; with visitation an hour prior. Internment will follow at 3pm at Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden, Utah (526 East 2850 North.)
