Ora Spencer

December 17, 1918 — August 26, 2013

Our dear sweet mother, grandmother and great grandmother Ora Sherwood Spencer died at home August 26, 2013 at the age of 94.  She was born in Levan, Utah December 17, 1918 to Glen Ervan and Edna Morgan Sherwood.  She was the oldest of 10 children.  She grew up in Levan and graduated from Juab High School with honors. She worked at the state capitol in Salt Lake City, a position she dearly loved.  She met Richard Frank Spencer when he returned from World War II and they were married April 25, 1946 in Salt Lake.  They were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple December 13, 1995.  They lived in the Uintah Basin and then moved to Salt Lake in 1954.  Dad passed away April 9, 1994.   She was an active member of the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints using her secretarial skills in Primary and Sunday School.  Mom transcribed over 400 Patriarchal Blessings for the Stake Patriarch, a calling she truly loved.  She also did extensive extraction work.  Mom was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and loved her family very much.  She was an excellent cook and seamstress.  Mom cared for her dear mother, her sister Verna, her mother-in-law and father-in-law lovingly before each passed away.  Mom tenderly cared for our dad after his stroke and would not leave his side except to attend her church meetings.  Dad and mom were both examples of service.  They would secretly put sacks of groceries on the doorsteps of those in need.
We would like to thank our dear brother Glenn for the loving care he provided to both mom and dad.  Because of him, our parents were able to live out their golden years at home.
She is survived by her children, Connie (William) Eastburn, Glenn, and Julie (Thomas) Humeniuk, 5 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; brother, Robert Sherwood, sisters, Nola Christensen, Marlene Bowers, and Illa Brown.  Preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Stanley and Bernell and sisters, Verna Foote, LaDean Mellor, and Colleen Jones.
A viewing will be held Friday August 30, 2013 at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  Graveside services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 E. 10600 S.
