Merlin W. Ballard
1922 – 2016
Merlin Wood Ballard, loving father and grandfather passed away April 27, 2016 at his home in Sandy.
Born October 15, 1922, Hurricane, Utah, the last child of six to pass on of Angus F. and Ivie Wood Ballard. Married Violet Hicks, December 17, 1945 In Wythville, VA, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple . She passed away May 4, 2010.
He was a faithful member of the LDS Church, served a mission with his wife in Australia and was a Temple Worker until the age of 93. Merlin was a medic in the US Navy. He had many talents, painter, wood worker, cartoonist and enjoyed sharing his cartoons with others. He loved trains and had four rooms of HO gauge trains.
Survived by children, Cheryl (Scott) Pannier, Scott (Nancy) Ballard, Barby (Kelvin) Valentine; 12 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 30, 2016, 12:00 p.m. at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South. A visitation will be held Saturday prior to services at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
