1925-2018

Melvin Ray Freeman was born June 19, 1925 in Finger, Tennessee to Eulys Carrol and Effie Mae Freeman. On February 6, 2018, at age 92, Mel passed away of natural causes.

Mel was proud to have served in the United States Navy as a Signalman, third class on the destroyer USS Robert K. Huntington in World War II. While in the Navy, he was stationed in California where he met Belva Marie Cook, they married July 5, 1947 in Salt Lake City. Mel and Belva made their home in Midvale where they raised their four children.

Mel graduated from the University of Utah with a business degree.  He worked at American Standard as a Sales Representative along with running his own commercial business building. He was proud to manage and handle all the business needs of the building he owned until his death. He had a love for his ranch in Idaho; a place he was always excited to visit and it always put a smile on his face.

Mel was a very giving, caring and a happy person, he loved life. He loved his family and grandchildren.

Mel is survived by his sons: Eric, Karl (Kay), Keith (Lori), along with his grandchildren: Cody (Amanda), Callin (Colby), Nicole (Tim), Jarrod (Amanda). Melvin is preceded in death by his wife Belva, son Douglas, daughter Julie, parents, sisters and brothers.

Mel loved to share his stories about the time he served in World War II. Mel shall be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at the Midvale City Cemetery, 471 West 7500 South, Midvale, on February 13, 2018, at 11:00 A.M.
