MAXINE ELLA SLY EMERY

1912 - 2011

Maxine Ella Sly Emery, 99,  passed away on   December 2, 2011.   She was born on September 26, 1912, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Claude Fred Sly and Louise Marie VanQuill.  She was the first of eight children.  She grew up with five brothers and two sisters.

Maxine married Wilford Newman Emery on her birthday, September 26, 1934, in the Salt Lake Temple.  She and Wilford had a wonderful marriage and loved to sing and dance together.  Wilford passed away in 1996.

She was a wonderful cook and hostess throughout the years.  Many people enjoyed her fabulous meals and hospitality.  She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.  Her greatest pride and joy was her family!  What a loving mother, grandmother and dear friend Maxine has been over the years.

Maxine was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served in Primary for 20 years, in Mutual, and was both a ward and a stake Relief Society President.  She had a firm testimony of Jesus Christ and was a valiant daughter of our Heavenly Father. She and Wilford  served a mission at the Oakland, California Visitor Center and later served together at Temple Square.

She is survived by sons, Jack (Judy), Alvin (Lila), Richard (Diane), Dennis (Judy), Mark (Kathy) and daughter, Carol Memmott (Floyd); 24 grandchildren, 64 great

grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.  Also survived by brother, Don Sly and sister, Jean Miller.  She was preceded in death by her husband Wilford Emery, one grandchild, and two great grandchildren; brothers, Howard Sly, Gordon Sly, Kenneth Sly, Robert Sly and sister, Claudeen Schulthies.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at noon at the Brighton 8 th Ward, 2895 E. Creek Road (8000 S.)  Friends may call at the Brighton 8 th Ward building Monday, December 5, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service.  Interment Elysian Burial Gardens.
