LeRoy “Roy” Bailey Eakle

1931 – 2015

LeRoy “Roy”, 84, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 26, 2015.   He was born on July 13, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Barnabus Burt and Ruth Ellen Bailey Eakle.  Married Susan A. McCormick on May 12, 1989.

Roy served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1952.  He was a graduate of Granite High School and earned a civil engineering degree from the University of Utah.  He was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Roy worked 28 years for Buehner Concrete, retiring in 1988.  Roy loved the “U of U”, hunting, fishing, boating on Lake Powell and road tripping.

Roy is survived by his wife, Susan, son Blake (Jodi), daughter Jera, son Adam (Tonya), sister LaVaun Harrison.  Also survived by grandsons Trevon, Alex, Ethan Eakle, Zachery Brown; granddaughters Raquel Smith, Madison, Taylor, Taryn Eakle, Bailey and Tavia Howell; great grandson Tybrus Smith; great granddaughter Hayden Smith.

From Susan:  He was a devoted father, husband and friend. He packed a lot in those 84 years.  He truly loved life.  His favorites were fishing in Alaska and road trips all over the West.  He loved to ski, both on water and snow.  He even enjoyed several years of golf!  He loved the out-of-doors.  While deployed to Kansas in 1951, Roy played football on the Navy’s team.  He loved college football especially his Utes.  A true “Utah Man”.  Roy even made it to the Fiesta Bowl.  I was blessed to be a part of his life for the last thirty years, married for twenty six.  We had a blast!  I am also forever blessed with the knowledge that his beautiful and giving family will always be my family.  He has left a wonderful and strong legacy.  Would I have loved more time? Yes, but I also know that we had what we were to have.  His big, loving yet fragile heart had made its journey.  I love you, Sweet Pea.  We know you are having the reunions you have been dreaming of.  We also know you were with us for the Utes stomping of the Ducks!  We will miss your humor, your breaking out in song (he knew all the words to “Utah Man”), and just your presence in our lives.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Brighton 2 nd Ward, 2925 E. Bengal Blvd. (7800 S) with a viewing at the Ward from 11:00 – 12:30.  Interment  Mt. View Memorial Estates, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.

“Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.   Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.  Lift up your heart and share with me.  God wanted me now.  He set me free”.    Unknown.
