Leone Nielson Sorensen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother peacefully passed from this life on February 3, 2017 at the age of 91.

Leone was born October 8, 1925 in Hunter, Utah to Ernest and Lavina Day Nielson. Leone graduated from Cyprus High School and attended Brigham Young University.

Leone married Kyle Ballard Sorensen on January 2, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. During their marriage Leone and Kyle lived in Salt Lake City, UT; Provo, UT; Palo Alto, CA; Lubbock, TX; Bellevue, WA; Cottonwood Heights, UT; and West Jordan, UT. Kyle passed away January 11, 2008.

Leone was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved to serve and spent many years as Primary President and Relief Society President. She worked many years in the Jordan School District. She also worked many years, and retired from, the Salt Lake City School District, where she enjoyed working with refugees as they completed the requirements to earn their GED. Above all, Leone loved her family and her greatest joy came from sharing her life and love with them.

Leone is survived by her 7 children: Kyleen Sorensen, Diane (Matt) Madsen, Terri Bruschke, Joanne Sorensen, Alan (Shelly) Sorensen, Michael (Sheila) Sorensen, and Karen Sorensen; 17 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren; and sister Margene (Glen) Stringham.  Preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd., (7600 S.).  A visitation will be held Thursday, February 9, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. and from 10-10:45 a.m.  prior to service.  Interment Larkin Sunset Lawn.

Leone's family wishes to thank her home health care nurse, Linda, and her hospice nurse, Debra.
