John Mooy

John Anthony Mooy

1945 - 2015

John was born March 12, 1945 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands to Willem Mattheus Mooy and Jacoba Voogt.  His family immigrated to the U.S. in 1950.  He served as a machinist mate in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He married Betty Ruth Little June 27, 1969. They were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple June 26, 1999. Betty passed away June 9, 2007. John and Betty lived a simple life of small adventures and pleasures with great devotion to each other. They enjoyed golfing, fishing and trips on the Harley.

John was a Salt Lake City police officer from 1971-1991. In 1978 he received a B.S. degree from Weber State College in Psychology and Police Science. John served as a Stake Missionary and enjoyed coaching and refereeing basketball and softball. John was a soft-spoken, gentle giant loved by his family and friends.

Survived by his brothers Gerrie (Trudie); Sandy (Nancie) and Scott (Connie); his sister-in-law Wanda Freed and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother Willem Mooy, his sister Ann Norregard and nephews Bill Mooy, Jr. and Forrest Mooy and his great-nephew Sean Cressall.

Funeral services will be held Monday June 15, 2015 at 11:00am at the East Midvale 4 th Ward, 87 East 7100 South, Midvale, Utah. Family and friends may be received prior to the service from 9:30-10:30am . Interment at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
