Jeanmaire Francis

May 12, 1953 — May 7, 2015

Jean W. Francis
1953 - 2015

Jeanmaire Wright Francis, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on May 7, 2015 in her home. She was surrounded by family and held by her husband of 41 years. Her fight against her illness was inspirational to many.

Born May 12, 1953 in Murray, Utah to S.L. and Marie Wright, she fondly spoke of her childhood home climbing trees in her backyard and floating the creek to Murray Park. After graduating from Murray High she attended Brigham Young University where she met and married her best friend, Kurt Francis. The wedding and sealing took place in the Provo Temple on December 21, 1973.

Jean enjoyed her years in Oklahoma while her husband completed medical training. She made many friends there and loved the time spent with Kurt’s family. They returned to Utah in 1987 where she devoted her life to raising her children which brought her the greatest happiness. She shared her love for the beauty of Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, and the Teton mountains with her family and spent many vacations in that area. Her children now enjoy a great love for the outdoors as a result of her efforts.

She was a skilled seamstress and loved needlework of all kinds. Her family commonly found her doing cross-stitch while watching the same movies she had seen repeatedly. She loved to read, spend time at the family cabin in Island Park, and play with her grandchildren. She enjoyed long walks for exercise which kept her young and vibrant. Her exemplary commitment to service included various capacities in the LDS church, her favorite being the Young Women’s program. Additionally, many others benefited from her service outside of her church, particularly her family.

Jean will be remembered as the most selfless person that her family has ever known. This quality defined her life and was evident in every action witnessed by others. She leaves behind her husband Kurt, her sons Steven (Kim), David (Melanie), Michael (Amanda), her daughter Rachel (Stephen) LIttlefield, eleven grandchildren, and two dogs. Her life and example of love and selflessness will not be forgotten.
