James Richard Scott

1986-2014

James Richard Scott, beloved son, brother, and friend, 28, passed away unexpectedly and returned to our Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 23, 2014. He was born on May 14, 1986 in Memphis, Tennessee, to Lawrence Richard and Jane Henrie Scott.

James was a friend to everyone he met. He was outgoing and funny, sympathetic and kind, loving and adventurous. Anytime he went out, James stopped to say hello to someone he knew. He loved hanging out with friends and was a good one to so many. He was an especially good listener.

James had a very dry sense of humor with the best facial expressions. He had a soft heart and never left home without giving a hug and a kiss to each family member. He said, “I love you,” frequently.

He loved all sports – snowboarding, basketball, and especially golf with his dad -- and watching any sport on TV.

James attended the University of Utah and studied Economics.

He served in the Paraguay Asuncion mission where he learned to love the people, food, and language.

His adventurous nature led him to try lots of new things. He loved being introduced to new music, trying new restaurants, and would try any sport – especially extreme ones. He was laidback and fun. A favorite catch phrase of his was: “No problem!”

We are comforted by the knowledge that he is with our loved ones who have already passed. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Betty Lue Endres Scott, Thomas “A” Henrie, and Faye Davis Henrie.

He is survived by his parents, Lawrence R. and Jane H. Scott of Cottonwood Heights, sisters, Julie Roberts (Matthew) of Gilbert, Arizona; Jennifer Smith (Jared) of San Diego, California; Michelle Brown (Jeffry) of Saratoga Springs; and 10 nieces and nephews; grandfather, Gerald L. Scott of Atlanta, Georgia; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Our family has appreciated and been strengthened by the love and support of extended family and dear friends. The memories shared by so many have blessed us during this sad time.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sandy Cottonwood Creek Stake Center at 1535 E. Creek Road, Sandy. A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 28 at 6:30-8:30p.m. at the Stake Center and from 9:30-10:30a.m. on Friday.

Interment at the Granite City Cemetery, Sandy, Utah.
