Jack Philip Sharp was born May 24,1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Philip E. and Ruth Neslen Sharp, and he died in Holladay, UT on December 14, 2023. Jack grew up in Salt Lake playing neighborhood stick ball and football, sledding down 600 South, and fishing in local streams. He attended West High School where he was commanding officer of the ROTC during World War II, and he served in the U.S. Army after graduation. He met Marjorie Robinson in a class at the University of Utah (BS and MS in History). They married in 1954 and lived in Utah and Colorado before moving to Helena, Montana where Jack was district manager of the Social Security Administration.
Jack and Marjorie raised their family in Helena. Jack made many dear church friends as Bishop of the Helena First Ward and then President of the Helena, Montana Stake. He enjoyed attending concerts, theatre, and sporting events; being in the outdoors; and supporting everything in which his children participated. He was a very loving father. After retiring, Jack and Marjorie moved to Oregon, served a two-year LDS mission at the Liberty Jail Historical Site with Jack as Director, and eventually returned to live in Salt Lake. He was a thoughtful friend and devoted minister to the people in his life, and he had a deep faith in Jesus Christ.
Jack is survived by his children Sally (Troy) Adams, Susan (Don) Fredley, Tim (Judy) Sharp, and Peggy (Brent) Kinkade, and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and Marjorie. All are welcome at a graveside service on Saturday, December 30 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery (entrance at T Street and E 4th Avenue; gravesite is located on 325 North just above the Mount Calvary Catholic cemetery).
