George Henry Rollins 4/26/1921 – 9/10/2011

Sandy, Utah – George Henry Rollins left this life on Saturday, September 10, 2011 on his own game plan…half-time, BYU ahead, and chocolate ice cream. He was born April 26, 1921 to Henry Melvin and Mary Ellen Stewart Rollins in Lyman, Wyoming. He grew up there with his sweetheart Lois Merle Rollins and they were married June 9, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated their 70 th anniversary this, his 90 th year. He loved life and gave it his all.

He participated in activities and responsibilities in his school years; music, all sports, student body president and valedictorian. George attended Utah State University for one year, then joined the United States Navy and served his country through the end of World War II. Desiring more education, he took advantage of the GI Bill to get thru college. Expecting their 5 th child and having held down 5 jobs, he graduated from the University of Wyoming in Laramie completing a Bachelors Degree in Business and a Juris (Law) Doctorate.

His professional career brought opportunities with the Union Pacific Railroad, Standard Oil Company, Kemmerer Coal Company, Administrator with Salt Lake City School District, and work with legal government contracts at Thiokol and other oil companies.

He believed in giving back to his communities and participating in civic and service organizations. He loved his years with the Cougar Club and Sons of the Utah Pioneers.

George played and enjoyed sports of all kinds. Golf was his greatest love for many years until he couldn’t play, and then with the same gusto, he became an ardent fan. He was true to the University of Wyoming and many professional teams, but he loved BYU. They lost one of their most dedicated fans last Saturday.

He was devoted to the Lord and served Him in many callings, but his favorite was with Lois on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Birmingham, Alabama and serving in the Jordan River Temple for 10 years.

Most of all he loved and served his family. We will always remember his love of the gospel, example and encouragement, sense of humor, inclusiveness and generosity.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, and their five children; Sandra (Marlell) Nielson, Pamela (Lynn) Ritchie, James Greg Rollins, Launa (John) Taylor, Kenneth (Joan) Rollins and sister Veda May (Rusty) Karcher. Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers Stewart, Melvin, Eugene, and Robert; and sisters Ruth Bickers and Thella Berleffi. He loved and devoted himself to his 23 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.
