Rowena Genevieve McAfee Nettleship
1929-2018

Rowena Genevieve McAfee Nettleship, 88, Taylorsville, Utah, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2018 following complications from a fall.

Genevieve was born on May 7, 1929, in Merrickville, Ontario, Canada to Henry MacMeekin “Mack” and Mary Jane Milford McAfee.  She was the third of four sisters and had one younger brother.  She was raised on a farm in Markstay, Ontario, Canada.  Genevieve was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while living in Kenora, Ontario, Canada.  With the help of beloved friends Frank and Berniece Wickham, she immigrated to Utah with her daughter Erin and settled in North Logan to be closer to the saints.  After living in Utah for several years, she moved to Midvale, Utah.  While there she met Arthur Vincent Nettleship.  They were married on June 27, 1972 in the Logan Utah Temple.  They settled in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, where she cared for her husband Arthur and their son Arthur until her husband’s passing in 1992.  She was a woman of impeccable integrity, great faith in her Savior, quiet inner strength and grace, with love for everyone around her.  She served her neighbors by making meals and baking pies for those in need.  She served in Salt Lake County volunteer programs to visit individuals who were homebound and as a foster grandparent to children.  Genevieve also served for many years as a Jordan River Temple worker.  She enjoyed family history work and bringing blessings to her loved ones.  She was an avid reader, loved to learn, and enjoyed country music and great poetry.

She loved her family and taught principles by example.  She leaves behind her daughter Erin (Preston) Hunt; son Arthur (Maradon) Nettleship and her grandchildren Nathanael, A. Caleb, Veora, William and Lillian Nettleship; her stepdaughter Naomi (Robert) Brems.   Her sister Jean (Harvey) Lalonde also survives her.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband Arthur Vincent Nettleship and stepdaughter Dorothy (Ivan) Lyman; her parents, Henry MacMeekin and Mary Jane Milford McAfee; siblings Alice (Charles) Bain, Violet (Joe) Jackson, and Norman (Ruth) McAfee.

Visitation for friends and family will be held on Thursday evening, February 15, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 East Bengal Boulevard (7600 South).  The funeral will commence at the Cottonwood Heights Brighton 3rd Ward Chapel, 2301 Bengal Boulevard on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation  before the funeral from 10:00-10:45 a.m.

Genevieve’s family wishes to thank the staff at Intermountain Medical Center for their kind and tender care of her on Sunday, February 11th.  Her children express their gratitude to family and friends, and her friends of the Taylorsville 1st Ward and Cottonwood Heights Brighton 3rd Ward for their kindnesses to her and her family during her hospitalization and preparations for her funeral.
