   She Had an Awesome Life

 Merry Gay Ogden Suchey, beloved mom, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, 83, passed away on December 8, 2022, a few weeks shy of her 84th birthday. Gay was born in Delta, Utah to Zelda and Ivo Ogden. She married Leon Suchey in 1963 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Leon passed away on October 8, 2015, and she never really recovered from that loss. Gay was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and her favorite calling was ward librarian, and she was most comfortable sitting on the back bench with her dear friends. She loved, and was deeply loved by, her husband, children, grandchildren, sisters, brother, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. Gay was best known as Mrs. Suchey, kindergarten teacher. She taught at Canyon View Elementary for 24 years and hundreds of students and families came to know and love Mrs. Suchey. It was impossible to go anywhere in Cottonwood Heights without her being recognized by a former student – and she remembered them all. Her extraordinary memory did not end with her students, she recalled experiences from her childhood with vivid details. She was an engaging storyteller and could get everyone laughing with her wit and humor. She had lifelong friendships with her neighborhood friends and “drinking buddies”. She was an amazing grandma to her grandkids, and they will always remember how much she loved them. Her final years were spent at Sunrise Senior Living, and she came to love her fellow residents and the staff as family. Her family is incredibly grateful for the love and care she had at Sunrise. With her passing, there is a little less shimmer in the world.
She is survived by her son, Kevin, daughter, Nicole (Erik), sister, Ivone, brother, Roger, and grandkids, Lyle and Astrid.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 12:00 at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 Bengal Boulevard (7600 South), Salt Lake City, Utah. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:30 prior to the service. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery following the services.
