Eva LaRae Ellett Green, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. She passed due to age-related causes.
LaRae was born on January 5, 1932, in Bicknell, Utah to Freeman Ellett and Eva Ann Ellett. She grew up during the heart of the Great Depression, where she learned the things that matter most don’t come from a store. She learned hard work, resilience, and the importance of family. This time formed the bedrock of her character and influenced all the years that followed.
She married Phillip Ralph Green in the Manti Temple on July 23, 1954, shortly after they both graduated from Brigham Young University, where she studied dietetics. She loved learning, a passion she pursued throughout her lifetime. Following her graduation, she dedicated herself tirelessly and selflessly to being the heart of the home she built with her partner and best friend, Phil.
As a military spouse, she worked with Phil to build their family together in locations spanning the globe, including California, Georgia, Alabama, Japan, Virginia, Salt Lake, England, and Germany. Although many things changed for the family during this time, the constant through it all was her unconditional love.
In each place LaRae lived, she built friendships she maintained for life. She loved adventure, new places and things, and had real excitement and appreciation for everything she experienced. Although she spent her early years in small rural towns in Utah, she was not intimidated by the world beyond her home. She felt as comfortable in Tokyo, London, Paris, and Rome as she did in her beloved Bicknell. With the help of a Ford Country Squire Station wagon, and trusty Sprite Major trailer, LaRae and Phil made sure their children experienced all Europe had to offer, even if it meant curbing the kids’ time at the beach!
Following Phil’s retirement, the family returned to Salt Lake City, where LaRae devoted the rest of her years to caring for two sets of aging parents, church service (including a missionto Munich, Germany with Phil), writing family histories, being the matriarch of a rapidly growing family, and making a fine Ranger cookie.
Finally, and most importantly, she was a devoted disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the most important work of her life was following His example, which she did magnificently. Through a lifetime of service and love, she came to know the Master she loved so deeply. This is the thing of which her family is most proud.
LaRae is survived by her children Darryl (the late Yuko), Rich (Joanie),and Sharon (Hal); sister Freda (Ken); twenty-seven grandchildren; and forty-three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Phil; twin daughters LaRae and RaVae; sons Phillip (Vonja) and Michael (Lecia); and sisters Arva Dean and Carol.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 1160 E. Vine Street (6100 South), Murray, Utah on Saturday, July 5th at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held at the same location from 9-10:45 a.m., preceding the service. Interment at American Fork Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinsons Foundation at Parkinson’s.org.
