Dustin Wallis

August 2, 1980 — May 27, 2021

Dustin passed away in the arms of his wife, with his mother by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the greatest example of loving, humble and generous husband, father, brother, and friend.
Dustin was born in Vernal, Utah and was the oldest of 5 children born to Tamara Wallis-Peterson and Steven Wallis (deceased). He was the responsible big brother any sibling should have, while, of course, indulging in a little teasing. Growing up, Dustin enjoyed camping and hiking, and he received his eagle scout at 16. He also loved bowling and won several local tournaments. In high school, he played tennis with a team and with his family, which is a tradition they carry on whenever they can get together. Dustin learned to work at an early age by taking care of his younger siblings and working at the family business, the local newspaper, from the time he was 6. He delivered newspapers and helped load papers off the printing press. When he was older, he continued to work side-by-side with his dad, helping with the layout of the newspaper and maintaining the website.
After high school, Dustin fulfilled an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Paraguay. In Paraguay, he learned Spanish and enjoyed the abundance of fresh mangos and real Coca-Cola. He came home with many presents for his family, including beautiful Paraguayan lace and matte.
Dustin received a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from the University of Utah. Throughout his schooling, he worked hard with integrity to make sure he paid his own way. Later, he received double master’s degrees in engineering and business.
He met the love of his life, Emily, while finishing his bachelor’s degree. And after he finally got up the courage to ask her to marry him, they married in the Salt Lake City Temple on January 6, 2007. They were blessed with two children, James and Annabelle.
In everything he did, Dustin was a diligent worker, fulfilling every responsibility 100%. The greatest joy and responsibility of his life was raising his children. He spent as much time with them as possible, playing any game they wanted, telling real and made-up stories, creating quizzes and challenges to exercise their minds and bodies, and making sure to read scriptures with them every night. James inherited Dustin’s love of building, and the two took on many Lego and junk-building projects together. Annabelle and Dustin shared a goofy sense of humor, each loving to make other people laugh with their silliness. They played, stickered, painted,  and read unicorn and rainbow books together even until his last days. Dustin will continue his tender stewardship over his children and his family in heaven.
Dustin had unwavering faith in God until the end, and he was greeted into heaven by his father, Steven, on May 27, 2021.
A visitation will be held at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E.
