Dorothy Darlene Fields Shields beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on August 2 nd 2014.

Darlene was the oldest daughter of James Arthur and Edith Mary Bryan Fields. She lived her first 12 years in Ophir living next to her grandparents and attending school in the one room school house.  The family moved to Tooele when she was 12, one of the highlights of living in Tooele was when she became Miss Tooele County.  Mom enjoyed many lasting friendships with her friends from both Ophir and Tooele.

She married Theron W Shields September 5 th , 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple and were blessed with six children who kept her on her toes for the remainder of her days.

Darlene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully in all her callings and loved the people she served with.  Her family especially loved when she would teach the old cultural refinement lessons and she would learn to cooks some of the foods from the country and we were able to test them out.  She served at the Jordan River Temple for many years as a temple worker and showed us the importance of temple work.   She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.

After the passing of Dad she worked for many years, her final twelve years of working were at Utah Youth Village where she worked with many choice people.

Survived by her children Susan (Kent) Mathews, David (Ann), Karen, Brian (Julie), Paula Ylst, Lisa (Craig) Free.  26 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Sisters, Carol Jeanne (Bob) Harding, Betty Lou (Bob) Cox, Bonny Lea (Ron) Robinson, sister-in-law Geraldine (Wendell) Droubay, Paul (Cathy) Shields. .Preceded in death by husband Theron,  sister  Shirlee and brother in law Berkley Orr, brother J. Clair and  sister in law Evelyn Fields, sister in law Zella and brother in law Tom Turner.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Stratford in Draper and Jolene and Juan from Solstice Hospice for the love and care they have shown her.

Funeral services will be held Saturday August 9 th , 2014, 10:00 a.m. at the Brighton 3 rd Ward Chapel 2301 E Bengal Boulevard (7600 South) with a visitation at the church from 9:00-9:45 am . Internment at the Tooele City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the LDS Philanphropies (LDS Church Education Fund), 1450 N. University Avenue, Provo UT 84604.
