Doris Maria Konnerup Kristensen Andersen (89 yrs), beloved Mor, Bedstemor, Sister, Moster, Faster, and Friend reunited with her eternal companion Gary Andersen, on November 6, 2023. Doris passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on both sides of the veil. Those who knew Doris have been indelibly impacted by her unconditional love, service, and sacrifice.

Doris was born in Krustrup, Hjørring, Denmark to Peter Kristian Kristensen and Sara Konnerup. She honored her parents and served them throughout their lives. Doris grew up with her nine brothers and sisters and had wonderful memories of the family farm. She loved the farm and the animals, especially the pigs. Doris was stubbornly loyal to her native country and kept her Danish citizenship though she lived the majority of her life in the United States.

Doris valued education. She received her nursing degree in Denmark in 1956 and worked as a psychiatric nurse. When she was 23 years old, Doris immigrated to America where she continued her nursing career at LDS Hospital for the next 29 years as a trauma nurse. Her calm, nurturing nature provided comfort and peace to her patients throughout the years.

Doris married Gary Enoch Andersen on May 28th, 1963 in the Salt Lake Temple. They met while Gary was serving as a missionary in Denmark and had the opportunity to labor on several church projects together. They continued that life of dedication for the next 55 years, teaching their children to live lives full of love and service. Later in life, they served together on a humanitarian mission and on a mission to Denmark. Together, Doris and Gary created a home where everyone felt welcome and their children felt safe and loved. Loved ones have happy memories of eating Doris’s ebelskivers and frikadelle while listening to her stories about Denmark. She had a way of making everyone feel comfortable and special.

Doris has a plaque that reads,  “Hvad er et Hjem uden Moder/ What is a home without Mother?” Doris loved being a mother and adored her children, Kristian and Andrea. She was deeply involved in their lives and was constantly concerned for their welfare. She worked nights so she could spend more time with them. She encouraged them in their interests, celebrated their successes, and comforted them in their disappointments. Doris was a loving and devoted mother and expanded her love to include Kurt and Mayumi when they married into the family.  Doris had a special place in her heart for her grandsons, Zachary, Jonathan, and their wives, she adored them and doted on them whenever she could. Her all-time favorite activity was to be with them and create special memories together.

Doris had a strong testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in a variety of callings throughout her life. However, her greatest calling was her Christlike example. Doris was an angel on earth, influencing family, friends, and patients for good. She had a way of making everyone feel valued and special. She created a space for individuals to be heard and seen with love and compassion. Her Christlike life was filled with service, sacrifice, love, and empathy. Many hearts and lives will be forever changed due to her angelic influence and example.

Doris is survived by her children Kristian and Mayumi Andersen, Andrea and Kurt Ames, and grandsons Zachary (Sophie) and Jonathan (Shaylah) Andersen-Chowgule.  Sister Maria Hundrup and Brother Richard Kristensen.
