Donna Sorensen Kane, age 89, of Salt Lake City, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025. She was born on September 30, 1935, in Price, Utah, to Earl Moses Basinger and Marie King, the eldest of five children: Ron Basinger, Janiel Basinger, Janet Hansen, and Gloria Apgood.
After graduating high school, Donna began her career working for the State of Utah. Her life was marked by a spirit of adventure, determination and entrepreneurship. She served as the Women’s Director at Spa Fitness Center, owned her own business, and, alongside her late husband, worked as a jewelry representative, traveling throughout the United States. Later in life, she found great joy and success in real estate, working with Coldwell Banker until her retirement.
Donna lived life with passion and purpose. She loved being outdoors, especially boating and snow skiing, activities she enjoyed with family and friends. She was always the first to offer help when it was needed and was a steady, guiding presence for those around her. Her generosity, resilience, and warmth touched countless lives, and her legacy lives on in the many people she inspired and cared for.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Marie Basinger; her siblings Ron Basinger, Gloria Apgood, and Janiel Basinger; her beloved son Randy Sorensen; and her former husbands, Fred Sorensen and Clark Kane.
She is survived by her children and stepchildren: F. Scott Sorensen, Ken Sorensen, Lori Sorensen, Gary Kane, Debbie Kane-Einhorn (daughter Brooke), Kevin Kane (wife Cynthia Hayes and daughter Trinity Kane), and Shawn Kane (children Konner, Leyton, and Kenedy Kane, and great granddaughter Raven Madera). The mother of Shawn’s children is Lisa Egbert.
She is also survived by her sister Janet Hansen and daughter-in-law Sharon Sorensen; her grandchildren: Gabriel Sorensen, Erin Sorensen, Kelsey Sorensen, Kaylee Sorensen, Dallas Sorensen, Harley Sorensen, and Kimber Sorensen; as well as two great-grandchildren, Noah and Connor Gardner, born to Kaylee and Mike Gardner. She has many nieces and nephews that she loved and adored.
An open house Celebration of life will be held at Cannon Mortuary, located at 2460 Bengal Blvd (7600 S) SLC, Ut 84121, on September 27th from 5:00-8:00pm, with an opportunity to share publicly at 6:00 pm. She will be laid to rest at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah.
