Debra Jones Alexander passed away on August 14, 2026, at age 74, surrounded by loved ones. She lived a life centered on family, teaching, and service, and will be remembered for her warmth, humor, kindness, and genuine care for others.

Debbie was born in Salt Lake City to Mervin and Lavon Jones. She was the third oldest of six children and the self proclaimed “rebel” of the family. She grew up next door to the cutest boy who would later become her high school sweetheart and husband. Debbie married Bruce Alexander on March 15, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had four children and built a life filled with family, travel, and adventure.

Debbie graduated from Highland High School in 1970 and earned her degree in elementary education from the University of Utah in 1974. She went on to dedicate 27 years of teaching, where she was beloved by students for her ability to make learning fun and enjoyable.

Her greatest joy was her family. She deeply loved being a mother and spent those years laughing, dancing, singing, and staying up late to finish art projects. Debbie was known as “Grammy” to her nine grandchildren. She hosted celebrations, attended recitals, cheered at sports games, and supported them in literally every way she could. She wanted to be involved as much as possible, making each family member feel important and loved.

Debbie found joy in life’s simple pleasures: Diet Coke, popcorn, Hallmark movies, Arctic Circle, lemon drops, roses, and a love of finding good deals. She was known for her style and had matching shoes and jewelry for every outfit. She was an expert gift giver and often found useful items you didn't know you needed until she gave them. She enjoyed camping, boating, and long road trips with her family. Her humor and sarcasm had a way of making everyone around her feel comfortable and included. If she gave you a hard time, it was a sure sign she liked you, and she was always a good sport when the teasing was reciprocated.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Debbie’s faith in Jesus Christ guided the way she lived and served others, especially in her work with the youth.

She is survived by her children: Gregg (Lacey), Tricia (Brad), and Staci; and grandchildren: Kaylee, McKenzie, Larissa, Emme, Corbin, Jocelyn, Grant, Lydia, and Vivian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Alexander; her son, Brett Alexander; her parents, Merv and Lavon Jones; her sister, Jan Harrison; and nephews, Ty, Taly, and Bryan.
