Colleen Jane Bowers, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, 83, passed away on October 13, 2026. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 24, 1943 to Allen Leroy and Ivy Jane Campbell Hodgson.
She was raised in a loving home by parents who, despite being physically disabled, were quite accomplished. This unique upbringing taught Colleen to be a hard worker as she often carried an extra load as the oldest child. Her parents’ examples showed her that nothing was out of reach with hard work and dedication. She took care of her parents in their late years in her home until they passed on. She was the ultimate caretaker and devoted daughter.
When she was young her family moved from Salt Lake City to Payson, Utah where she would find her eternal companion and love of her life. They were married on August 17, 1962 in the Manti Utah Temple. They built a happy home and lived in Cottonwood Heights for 55 years. Glen and Colleen have always been inseparable. Their love and care for each other was evident to everyone around them. Their marriage is a perfect example of love, patience, service, and fun.
Colleen was blessed with many talents. She learned to play the piano at a young age and taught lessons for most of her life. She was a talented seamstress and was often found mending or sewing new dresses, costumes, and even beautiful wedding dresses for two daughters. She also had a passion for knitting. Her afghan blankets were beautiful, and she gifted them to many lucky family members, friends, and young women in her ward. They are cherished keepsakes.
Colleen was the queen of hosting. Her house was immaculate. Her food was delicious. And her tables were beautiful and carefully planned. No detail was forgotten. She enjoyed cooking for her family, and dinners at Grandma’s house were loved by all. She was a friend to everyone and often showed her love by dropping off special treats to others. She made everyone feel loved.
Colleen had a humble devotion to and love for her Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her whole life and enjoyed serving others in many capacities. She believed in the Plan of Salvation and we know that her reunion with her loving parents and sweet grandchildren brought her great joy.
Colleen is survived by her sweetheart Glen, her children Greg (Jamie) Bowers, Debi (Rick) Meinzer, Sheri Martin, Gary (Brooke) Bowers, Marci (Sean) Hagen, 15 beloved grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers: Mark (Vicky) Hodgson and Grant (Pam) Hodgson. She was proceeded in death by her grandchildren Sara Martin and Tanner Martin, and her brother Gordon (Deanna) Hodgson.
A visitation will be held at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 South) on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A graveside service will be held the following day for family and close friends, 1:00 PM, at Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
Thank you to the many family, friends, neighbors, and ward members who showed so much kindness and support to Colleen. Special thanks to staff at The Ridge who took special care of her during her last days. There are not adequate words to express our love and appreciation to our dad for the many years he showed endless sacrifice, patience, tender care, and Christlike love to our mom. We are forever blessed by his example and consider ourselves the luckiest children to have parents who were madly in love all the days of their lives.
