Colby "Cole" Jacob Roberts

Jan 21, 1975 — Jul 7, 2026

Colby "Cole" Jacob Roberts, 51, of South Jordan, Utah, passed away on July 7, 2026. He was born on January 21, 1975, to Riley and Rosalyn Roberts, and raised in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.

As a kid, Cole loved running around with his two older brothers, playing with G.I. Joes, and watching Star Wars. He loved movies, skateboarding, Del Taco, and never lost his lifelong fascination with army men and the military. Cole graduated from Brighton High School in 1993.

In 1996, he married Julie Davis, and together they had three beautiful girls. He was a great girl dad with his kind heart and was always showing up for his girls throughout all their extracurricular activities, including cheerleading and dance competitions. He always enjoyed wrestling with the girls and making them tough. You would always see him teaching them new things. The girls could always count on him to be on time and to have a listening ear to hear about their day. Cole and Julie built a family where they were constantly laughing and enjoying time together. There was lots of time spent boating, camping, fishing, and traveling. Cole's favorite holiday was the 4th of July. He tried his best to be the most patriotic person around. He shared this love with his children, often celebrating with boating and fireworks. He was very talented at wakeboarding, and loved every second on the water. Cole and Julie were married for 24 years.

Cole worked in HVAC at Sheet Metal Systems in Draper, Utah, for 25 years, where he got to work with his father. He also excelled at taking on home projects. He always found satisfaction in a job well done. He was a hard worker and was kept busy doing extra projects such as tile work, flipping homes, and doing lots of side jobs for friends and family. He later moved on to maintenance at O.C. Tanner, alongside his two brothers, where he remained until his passing.

Skateboarding was one of Cole's greatest passions. He spent countless hours on his skateboard and was known as "The Lord of the Board." He rode the half pipe and competed in several regional and national vert skating competitions. In 2001, he competed in the Vans Warped Tour and took home first place regionally, then continued on to California, where he was ranked 7th nationally. His favorite trick was a frontside aerial, and his signature move was an invert. He was sponsored by Quicksilver for his incredible skills, and he met many lifelong friends through his years of skateboarding.

Cole loved hockey and started at a young age. He played in high school at Brighton and even continued to play for years on the Thirsty Dogs team. He met many good friends and always enjoyed spending time on the ice. He was a faithful watcher of the Stanley Cup each year and was beyond excited when Utah got an NHL hockey team.

He shared a special bond with his pug, Boston, who was his best friend and rarely far from his side. But more than anything, Cole's greatest joy was his kids and granddaughter. His face lit up every time they were near. He was great at playing kitchen and gifted Navy a mini skateboard and Vans to teach her. He was valued by many for his kindness, patience, sweet heart, and resilience.

Cole is survived by his parents, Rosalyn and Riley Roberts; his children, Kennedy (Sam) Ereth, Berklee Roberts, and Paisley Roberts, and granddaughter Navy Ereth. He is also survived by his brothers, Justin (Renee) Roberts and Jonah (Joelle) Roberts, and several nieces and nephews.

Cole's life was not simple, and neither is the grief of losing him. He was loved deeply, but he struggled deeply, and his family is grateful to believe he is finally at peace.

A celebration of life will be held on July 11th at Bywater Park in Cottonwood Heights, 3300 E Banbury Rd (7420 S), Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121.
